Doctors may use surgical techniques other than plantar fascia release
for chronic heel pain and/or
plantar fasciitis. These usually are done in
combination with plantar fascia release when there is prolonged heel pain and
another heel problem.
A heel spur is a calcium deposit on the underside of the heel bone. On an X-ray, a heel spur protrusion can extend forward by as much as a half-inch. Without visible X-ray evidence, the condition is sometimes known as "heel spur syndrome."
