Friends and family describe Garrett Davis as a giving man.
He always gave and never expected anything in return.
So when his life was tragically cut short by a brain aneurysm, no one was surprised when he gave the most precious gift of all.
There was no question. I knew that Garrett wanted his organs donated.
You see, in a twist of fate, Garrett was once on the receiving end of organ donation. Born with a disease that eventually destroyed his liver, he knew what it was like to be on a transplant waiting list.
Garrett's life was saved by someone donating an organ and his wish was that he do the same on his way out of this world.
It's the greatest gift you can ever give. And most of the families who are donor families who experience this know how true this is.
Doctor Van Buren is a transplant surgeon. He says a single organ donor can save or improve the lives of up to 50 people.
If you think of the paired organs, your eyes, both lungs, skin, tendons, cornea, there's a lot of people who could be helped.
And that's a source of pride and comfort to loved ones left behind.
Knowing that his heart is beating in someone else and maybe that person has kids, or has a wonderful life and he was able to go on because of Garrett, you know, it makes me happy.
It brings you a sense of peace that, you know, little parts of him are out there in other people, and other people were saved because he lived.
