Mmm… the thanksgiving turkey – fresh out of the oven. That turkey's taken hours to prepare. This year, Rose Solt is trying something different – deep fat fried turkey. It's a popular trend that dramatically cuts cooking time.
With the deep fat frying we just kinda clean it and inject it, season it, and wait for the oil and then it just is done, depending upon the size of the turkey, forty-five minutes or an hour.
Fried turkeys are usually cooked over a propane burner. The open flame and hot oil can be dangerous, so extra precautions are needed. Burn specialist, Mary Lou Patton, says hot oil burns can be serious.
By the history, if you tell me you have an oil burn versus a water burn, I would expect the oil burn to be much… a deeper injury.
If you get burned, don't put off seeking help.
Anyone with a hot oil burn should be seen by a physician. There are many burn wound centers in the area also, where they can be seen if the family physician's not comfortable with it, the care.
For safe eating, fried turkey should be cooked to an internal temperature of one-hundred-eighty degrees. Carefully lift the turkey out of the hot oil onto a plate. It's now ready for carving.
Um – good.
But don't forget, the oil adds calories. For WebMD, I'm Sandee Lamotte.
