If I would even stand up and just try to, I would sway, I couldn't bend over to pick up anything 'cause I just seemed to be falling over.
Seventy-three-year old Bud Fishler is active now, but it wasn't that long ago that this proud grandpa suffered from dizzy spells.
At first I blamed it on when I'd get up quickly, and that probably was true. But it got to the point where it got worse and worse.
Bud was diagnosed with a balance problem that caused his dizziness. So what's the difference?
Each person has a different take on what they mean by dizzy.
Doctor Jeffrey Gould says the key is to know how to describe your symptoms. Are you lightheaded or is the room spinning?
Momentary situations that are very infrequent are much less likely to be uh, caused by a severe or dangerous problem.
Instead it's more likely a balance center problem, like Bud's. But many people think their dizziness is a sign of something much more serious.
And everyone who has dizziness thinks, 'Oh that's my brain tumor, that's it... I've got a brain tumor.' But it's very, very uncommon for people to have brain tumors as the cause of their dizziness.
To get better... Bud performs special exercises. He said they've helped him regain a more positive and steady outlook on life. For WebMD, I'm Damon Meharg.
