Shopping for a child with ADHD this holiday?
These kids are impulsive, hyperactive and inattentive.
ADHD specialist Frank Lopez says keep that in mind when purchasing toys.
You want to pick things that are gonna be simple, short in terms of their duration time and fast-paced.
Kids with ADHD have tons of energy, so you want to give them outlets that are productive and safe.
Stephanie Oppenheim is co-founder of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. She helped pick the top ten toys for children with ADHD for the year 2004.
This is a great choice for kids with ADHD. This is a Gertie Ball. It's very easy to grasp, so its easy to catch for small children. And also, it's not gonna hurt you if you get hit with it. Kids with ADHD are very impulsive.
Other toys making the list include this giant USA puzzle map. The bigger and fewer the parts, the lower the frustration level.
Play with things that are large and manual, so that the kids can really be, their self-esteem can increase.
That's the overall criteria when we pick the top ten toys, are picking toys that kids are gonna likely have success with, build confidence.
Cranium Hullabaloo is a good choice because it uses up boundless energy and teaches hyperactive kids to focus.

Games that are not only working on skills that you want to reinforce with your child, but at the end of the day you want them to walk away with a happy memory of the holidays.
