Narrator:

The Mackiewicz boys are writing machines, thanks to a video their mom bought to help them along. Both have special needs, and this is a special video, produced for children like them.

Suzanne Mackiewicz :

I think it's the sing-songy that helps them refocus in on what they're doing.

A square has four sides.

Narrator:

The video stars occupational therapist Marnie Danielson, or Miss Marnie, who uses rhymes to help the children put pen to paper. Some for the first time.

Susan Ellis :

Most children learn best visually. The rhythmic chants that we use, it's so catchy and it tells them exactly how to motor plan. 'Up and around back up and down, A', and it's the repetition.

Narrator:

The videos came about almost by accident. Susan realized her autistic son needed video to help remember what happened during therapy. So she started recording the sessions.

Susan Ellis:

He was watching the video demonstrations. He was listening to that chant and started writing in ten minutes. I mean I just, I couldn't believe that something he had been struggling with for years, was able to be accomplished that quickly.

Narrator:

They continued recording and eventually created this video, and two others, which reach beyond special needs.

Susan Ellis:

It's starting to filter into that general education, kindergarten and preschool classes and they're loving it just as much.

Narrator:

This mom says it had an immediate impact in her house, especially for her older son.

Suzanne Mackiewicz :

He didn't write down O's because I told him to write down O's, he wrote down O's because he was having fun.
