Sinus Headache Treatments continued...
If home treatments aren’t working -- or if you have a fever, pain, or swelling of your face or eyes, redness around your eyes or cheeks, severe headaches, confusion, or a stiff neck -- see your doctor right away. Together, you can come up with a definitive diagnosis and then settle on the right treatment. Your doctor will need to do a thorough exam. He or she may also need to run some tests -- like CT scans or MRIs – to assess the cause of your headaches.
If you have repeated sinus problems, including headaches, surgery can sometimes help. Some sinus problems are caused by defects in the nasal passages that make you prone to developing sinus problems. Other times, growths like polyps block the sinuses. Surgery can be an effective way to resolve these issues if appropriate medical therapy doesn’t suffice or problems are severe.
Sinus headaches can be uncomfortable and frustrating. So don’t suffer with them unnecessarily.
