Amy Rothman Schonfeld is a medical writer who specializes in the topics of psychiatry, neurology, and pharmacology. She graduated from Vassar College in 1973 and received a doctorate in pharmacology, specializing in neuropharmacology, from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences/Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1978. She then completed postdoctoral training in experimental neuropathology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1979-1982), where she went on to become a research associate and then assistant professor of neurology (1982-1984). She wrote 13 first-author and second-author research papers on subjects in neuropharmacology, biochemistry, and behavior.

Since 1985 she has been a freelance medical writer and editor. She has written clinical review articles, research manuscripts, newsletters, abstracts, analyses of scientific research, drug summaries, and proposals on a variety of topics. She has also attended scientific meetings as a medical journalist, producing newsletters and articles in neurology, psychiatry, radiology, and pharmacology. Amy has also organized the scientific content of a series of medical meetings related to the introduction of a new drug for diabetes. Most recently, she has been proud to be part of the launch of WebMD and has written numerous articles for its Psychiatry channel
