Arefa Cassoobhoy, MD, MPH

Arefa Cassoobhoy, MD, MPH, is a WebMD medical editor. She is responsible for reviewing WebMD content across the web site and ensuring its accuracy, credibility, and timeliness.  This includes health news, features, WebMD Magazine, videos, mobile applications, tools, and health reference material.  

Cassoobhoy represents WebMD as an expert in media and blogs for the site. This includes interviews with Fox Business and live chats partnered with Huffington Post and the New England Center for Investigative Reporting.  She presented a workshop  at the 2014 National Scleroderma Patient Education Conference about the nuts & bolts of social media for people with chronic illnesses.

Cassoobhoy is a board-certified internal medicine doctor with a special interest in women’s health and family nutrition.  Her interests began during college where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in medical anthropology. She received an MD/MPH joint degree scholarship from the Emory University Medical School and the Rollins School of Public Health. Her MPH focus was in health policy and management. Cassoobhoy went on to complete a primary care internal medicine residency at Emory University.  

After residency, Cassoobhoy joined the Emory Clinic, based in midtown Atlanta. She then transferred to the outpatient clinics at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Decatur, GA. Now, she continues to see female veterans at the VA Women’s Wellness clinic. Also, she volunteers in her community at health clinics and elementary schools, teaching healthy habits and nutrition.
