High cholesterol runs in Dymond Burris's (DIE-mund BURR-is's) family and she was recently diagnosed with it. Now she's working to control it with medicine, diet and exercise.
A lot of walking. About a 20-minute walk from the train to my house so it's a good walk and I walk out for lunch, so I'm trying to cut down on the fried foods and all the sweet stuff.
Most cholesterol is produced by the liver. Some comes from animal fats in your diet. It's good for you in certain amounts, but too much can lead to heart attack and stroke.
To increase your good cholesterol, sometimes it, it's just good genes but exercise, not smoking and a good healthy diet, will give you a good amount of cholesterol. The lousy cholesterol many times is because of a poor diet.
High cholesterol is usually a problem for middle aged and older men, but a new study warns it can raise the risk of stroke in women as young as 30, especially young black women.
It's a little scary 'cause sometimes I feel like if I eat the wro... if I eat the wrong thing, it's like , feels like my heart is... clogging up and it's hard for me to breathe.
Since high cholesterol has no symptoms, a simple blood test can determine whether your cholesterol is normal.
If you have a strong family history you should be tested earlier on. If you don't have a strong family history, when you're 20 and every five years after that, if you have a normal cholesterol.
If you don't, there are steps you can take to lower it. For WebMD, I'm Sandee LaMotte.
