Nan's Note

From Your No. 1 Health Advocate

Health is such a precious commodity, yet the realities of daily living can put the kibosh on even the most valiant attempts to schedule and follow through on doctor's appointments, plan healthy meals, be physically active, get enough sleep and relaxation, and make time for our relationships with others. Phew!

The great news is that even the smallest healthy change can bring large benefits. Need a little help starting a healthy habit or staying on course? Read on.

You will find this issue packed with need-to-know tips for thriving this season, including how to maintain—not gain—when you graze the holiday buffet and how to make the season as stress-free as possible for everyone involved.

With life around us these days providing a constant reminder of those needing support, we pay special honor in this issue to caregivers. Our cover story on Meredith Vieira, star of both The View and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, mother, and wife of a cancer survivor who has MS, shows us that supporting and caring for the chronically ill can have unexpected rewards.

I am warmed by the millions of caregivers who turn to WebMD day after day for help becoming better patient advocates, as well as for community support and self-care information. I can't think of anything more important than appreciating—and maintaining—one's wellbeing.

As we head into the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I encourage you to reflect, relax, simplify, and take a deep breath—that is, breathe in deeply and breathe out deeply. (I hope that did not just make you cough. If so, speak with your doctor.)

Our very best to you and yours this holiday season from WebMD Health.

Yours in well-being,
