Clean Kitchen, Better Food
Your daily dose of health information selected by WebMD physician editors.

Want a great kitchen? You don't need a big budget or gourmet tastes.

Just take a moment to tidy up. It will help keep germs and bacteria off the menu.

  • First, clean surfaces thoroughly with soap and water, or another cleaner.
  • Apply disinfectant.
  • Let disinfectant stand for a few minutes or longer, following the product's instructions.
  • Wipe the surface with paper towels or cloth towels.
  • Throw paper towels away; clean cloth towels.
  • Wash your hands, even if you wore gloves while cleaning.
  • Store cleaners and disinfectants out of kids' reach.
