The toll-free National DMDA Information Line is available for everyone who needs information or resources on depression, manic depression, and related affective disorders. Callers can request a free information packet, which includes a comprehensive "Guide to Depressive and Manic-Depressive Disorders: Diagnosis, Treatment and Support;" a chapter directory for referral to a support group in their community; and a bookstore catalog.

This is a great site for reading in-depth discussions of the various symptoms and treatments of different kinds of depression (major depressive disorder, major depressive episode, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder). Excellent links to online resources and support services. The second of these two links will take you to online forums where you can discuss mental health topics with others who may share your concerns and experiences.

The NIMH is part of the National Institute of Health, and offers a considerable amount of information on depression. From this "Public Information" page, select "Information on Specific Mental Disorders" to find very general information about specific disorders, or "Depression Awareness Recognition Treatment Program" for more detailed information and further topics such as "Women and Depression," "Co-occurrence with Medical Conditions," and other useful topics.

Newsgroups are discussions that take place on the Internet. They can be accessed via the Internet by searching for "newsgroups" and then selecting the appropriate group.
