Laurie Anderson, RN, MSN

Laurie Anderson is a family nurse practitioner in a rural health clinic serving a Native American population; she is also employed as an on-call intensive care unit nurse (ICU) in a community hospital where 70% of the ICU population is hospitalized for heart disease-related illnesses. She obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing from Old Dominion University in 1984 and her master's degree in nursing in May 2003. She successfully completed her certification boards in July 2003 and became registered as a family nurse practitioner. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society of Nursing, and the newly created American College of Clinicians, which is a professional organization for Advanced Practice Clinicians. Her other professional memberships include the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurse's Association, and the Rhode Island State Nurses Association Nurse Practitioner Council. She is certified by the American Heart Association in advanced cardiac life support and as a basic life support instructor, and by the American Cancer Society as a Freedom From Smoking course instructor.
