I got a job! It seems incredible that only a couple of days after I lost my job I found another one. I have good friends, a wonderful support system, and I'm just plain lucky. The new job is a contract position and has no medical insurance, but hey, it's a paycheck! As of today, the pigging out has to stop. I need to get a handle on my life, and hiding inside a pint of Haagen-Dazs isn't helping. I continue to read up on gastric bypass surgery. It seems that more and more surgeons are training to do the Roux-en-Y procedure. The rate of death from the surgery and/or complications is still pretty high, but I'm sure a lot will be learned by the time I'm able to have surgery myself. Like any surgical procedure, the more common it becomes, the lower the rates of complications and death. Maybe I'm just being naive, but I don't have any concerns about having a good surgical experience. I trust myself to find a good doctor and to head to the operating room knowing that I'm in good hands.
