Bow to Your Partner

Square dancing is the best exercise around. If it were not for that, I would not walk, treadmill, or ride stationary bikes.

People in their mid 80s are square dancing all across the country. Most dancers are over 50. We burn 500 calories in 2 hours of fun and walk about 3-4 miles and never even think twice about the walking distance. We are having so much fun we do not think about the distance even once.

It keeps the mind active, too, always listening and thinking. There are over 100 calls for the dancers to learn and remember how to execute, and to maintain the square from breaking down; eight people working like a clock together to maintain timing to music and the figures called by the prompter.

In September, there will be many classes awaiting new dancers to learn and enjoy a social affair with health benefits that have been kept a secret way too long. Square dancing can be found anywhere across America in every town of population. Is there some reason WebMD does not know about the best form of exercise? This should be a doctor's first advice to people needing exercise if they are still able to walk.

Your exercise programs do not work or last. There is no fun. I have danced over 30 years and hate walking and boredom. Check it out, and send people to a square dance class. They won't be sorry you did.
