Darla Atlas is a freelance journalist who specializes in health and weight loss features. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon and has had her work published in numerous outlets, including People magazine, The Dallas Morning News, and Seventeen.

Atlas has a passion for sharing stories about real people who have overcome adversity or are making significant changes in the lives of others. Among her favorites: a small-town pastor in Texas who helped give 76 foster kids permanent homes by preaching about the issue to his congregation; a summer camp for burn victims, where the kids can forget their scars for a while and simply have fun; a man who has served well more than a million meals to the homeless over the past decade; and countless stories of health-related transformations, all of which demonstrate the power of determination.

Atlas grew up in Memphis, spent several years in the Northwest, and has a special place in her heart for Glacier National Park, where she worked for three summers. She now calls Texas home. Her two children, Jake and Emily, are still wonderful human beings despite being teenagers.
