Research behind DHA and Infant Development
Scientific studies have demonstrated that, although DHA is important throughout pregnancy, it is particularly important in the third trimester when significant brain growth occurs. After birth, DHA is needed for ongoing brain and eye development.

Scientific Support for Fortified Formulas
DHA and ARA (arachidonic acid) supplemented infant formula has been shown to be a good source of these nutrients, and are recommended for inclusion in formulas by several scientific bodies worldwide. Studies have shown that infants fed DHA and ARA supplemented formula (compared to those fed non-supplemented formula):
- Demonstrated better visual acuity 26
- Had significantly lower blood pressure at age 6 27
- Higher visual acuity and verbal skills at age 4 26
Currently, more than 90% of infant formulas in the U.S. are fortified with life'sDHA +life'sARA™.
Note: Not all studies have shown similar benefits.
