mole
Pronunciation (mōl)
- An intrauterine mass formed by the degeneration of the partly developed products of conception. [L. moles, mass]
- In the SI, the unit of amount of substance, defined as that amount of a substance containing as many “elementary entities” as there are atoms in 0.0120 kg of carbon-12; “elementary entities” may be atoms, molecules, ions, or any describable entity or defined mixture of entities and must be specified when this term is used; in practical terms, the mole is 6.0221367 × 1023 “elementary entities.” See also: Avogadro number
