The UltraMetabolism Diet

The UltraMetabolism Diet: What It Is

If you choose the right foods, you can rev up your metabolism and lose weight, according to UltraMetabolism: The Simple Planfor Automatic Weight Loss. The trick is to control the communication between your genes and your fat cells.

''It is a revolutionary concept called neutrogenomics, or how food talks to our genes and controls health and disease,'' explains author Mark Hyman, MD. Enjoy a variety of natural foods that are rich in colors and phytonutrients, and these foods will control cravings and your appetite, he says. Additionally, these foods can work like medicine to detoxify your body.

''Whole foods contain a class of molecules that turn on enzymes in the liver, reduce risk of cancer, and help detoxify the liver,'' says Hyman. Add in a dose of stress relief and the purging of toxins, and you should lose 11-21 pounds in 8 weeks.

Hyman says that if you follow the UltraMetabolism diet, you will understand the connection between what you eat and how you feel.

''Most people will choose the improved lifestyle once they see how the UltraMetabolism diet makes them feel better, sleep better, have more energy, improves digestion, clears up nasal passages, and results in weight loss,'' he says.

Hyman’s seven keys to weight loss include:

  • controlling appetite
  • reducing stress
  • managing cellular inflammation
  • preventing cellular "rust"
  • revving up metabolism
  • optimizing thyroid function
  • detoxifying your liver

He bases his recommendations on years of medical practice and his own experience.

The UltraMetabolism Diet: What You Can Eat

Before you start the UltraMetabolism diet, you'll need to clear your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer of junk foods and any foods containing:

  • sugar
  • high-fructose corn syrup
  • hydrogenated fats
  • refined grains
  • alcohol
  • caffeine

Then take a trip to the grocery store to stock up on wholesome foods including:

  • an array of colorful fruits and vegetables
  • whole grains and other unprocessed foods
  • lean meat, fish and poultry
  • organic foods
  • nuts, soy products, and beans

Sugars, fats, unhealthy oils, processed foods, and refined grains are discouraged. In addition, the author steers dieters away from dairy and artificial sweeteners.

There are no calorie restrictions or limits on portions. Hyman dismisses the notions of willpower, portion control, and swings in blood sugar or hormones.

''If you choose the right foods, you don’t need to worry about anything else, because everything will fall into place naturally'' he says.

"If you eat man-made trans fats they turn on genes to make you gain weight, but if you eat fish oil you turn on healthy genes that lower inflammation and help weight loss,' says Hyman.

The UltraMetabolism Diet: How It Works

The philosophy behind the UltraMetabolism diet is that choosing the right foods, will reduce your desire to overeat.
