How the interaction occurs:
Medicines containing aluminum (e.g. in some antacids), iron or zinc may bind to deferiprone in your digestive tract.
What might happen:
Your body may not absorb as much deferiprone and it may not work as well.
What you should do about this interaction:
Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. Time your medicines so that you do not take any medicine containing aluminum, iron or zinc within four hours of your deferiprone dose.Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it.
