management or monitoring precaution: Musculoskeletal-Associated with an increased risk for tendinitis and tendon rupture particularly with corticosteroid use. Endocrine-Use caution in elderly with diabetes since a higher incidence of hypoglycemic events have been reported. Cardiovascular-Elderly may be more susceptible to the QT-prolongation. Make sure electrolytes are corrected (e.g. K, Mg) Neuro/Psych-Risk for peripheral neuropathy which may affect walking and increase fall risk.
Giving moxifloxacin HCL to a child under 12:
Severe Precaution: Known risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture, QT prolongation. Joint lesions observed in juvenile animal studies. Safety and efficacy not established in complicated intra-abdominal infection trial.
