An adult over 60:
management or monitoring precaution: Cardiovascular-Increased sensitivity to effects on blood pressure. Metabolic-more likely to develop hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia. Endocrine-May worsen glucose control in diabetics. Renal-Not effective with CrCL < 30mL/min.
Giving valsartan-hydrochlorothiazide to a child under 12:
management or monitoring precaution: No data are available for dialysis patients or with a glomerular filtration rate <30 mL/min/1.73 m2. Monitor potassium and renal function closer with underlying renal abnormality.
Severe Precaution: Increased risk of increased hepatic enzymes. Not recommended age < 6 years or with a glomerular filtration rate <30 mL/minute/1.73 m2. Not studied in this population.
