How the interaction occurs:
The pH of your GI tract needs to be acidic for your medicine to dissolve and be absorbed. Proton pump inhibitors change the pH (acidity) in your GI tract.
What might happen:
The amount of medicine in your blood may decrease and it may not work as well.
What you should do about this interaction:
Let your healthcare professionals (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) know that you are taking these medicines together. Your doctor may instruct you to take antacids instead of your proton pump inhibitor.If you need to use an antacid while on bosutinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, or pexidartinib, take the antacid at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after your bosutinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, or pexidartinib.If you need to use an antacid while on gefitinib, take the antacid at least 6 hours before or after your gefitinib.If you need to use an antacid while on neratinib, take the antacid at least 3 hours before your neratinib.If you need to use an antacid while on dacomitinib, erlotinib, neratinib, or pazopanib, separate the doses of the antacid and your cancer medicine by several hours.If you have questions about how to schedule your medicines, ask your pharmacist.
