How the interaction occurs:
Antacids containing aluminum, calcium, and/or magnesium may bind to phosphate in your digestive system, preventing your body from absorbing the phosphate.
What might happen:
Your phosphate supplement may not work and your phosphate level may remain low.
What you should do about this interaction:
Unless your healthcare professional (e.g. doctor or pharmacist) instructs otherwise, avoid the use of antacids containing aluminum, calcium, and/or magnesium while you are taking a phosphate supplement. Your doctor or pharmacist can recommend alternative antacid products.If you have been taking an antacid product containing aluminum, calcium, and/or magnesium with your phosphate supplement, let your healthcare professional know.
