Had a sore throat so painful I thought it was strep and went to urgent care. The rapid strep test came back negative so it was just a really painful sore throat. The Dr. gave me this RX for the pain and it helped tremendously! It's pretty thick so I'm not sure how any "gargling" would take place so I just swallow it. Numbs the pain so I can swallow and sleep better. It taste terrible but I'd say i...

I was prescribed this medication to ease my severe sore strep throat along with Amoxicillin and Benzonatate tablets. The directions clearly say "Swish and gargle 15mls (about one tablespoon) for 15 seconds every 4hrs while awake for pain. Spit out, do not swallow". At first glance, I didn't have any concern for taking this medication. I have experienced gargling a warm water salt solution before a...

Had an incredibly bad sore throat for two days and tried everything.....salt water gargle, cloroseptic, lozenges, and lemon ginger tea with honey. Went to urgent care because I was worried it was strep. Strep test came back negative. It was Pharyngitis....a really bad sore throat. Dr. prescribed the Lidocaine gel and I was kind of taken aback as my wife uses Lidocaine patches for her lower back, so I was concerned about gargling with it. Dr. said to dilute it with a little bit of water to make it easier to gargle, but the pharmacist said she uses it straight up with no issues. I decided to gargle the diluted solution, and it went really well. I was able to gargle it for about 30 seconds and then spit it out. It does say you can swallow it, if needed, but not gonna do that. It's been over 30 minutes since I took it and my throat is not sore. Read More Read Less

Like everyone else said, it's impossible to gargle this solution or get it to the back of your throat which is why they prescribe this med. It's so thick, it can't be gargled. There was no information sheet given with the medication. Taste is like eating mud even though the bottle says it's banana flavored. There was a label on the bottle that said "Read the Boxed Warning for this medication". There wasn't any warning. I could see how someone could choke on this medication since my throat is already closed up from the strep throat. Poor judgement on the doctor's and pharmacist's part to not alert the patient of the warning, especially if you have oral sensitivities.Read More Read Less

I was given this after barrett's procedure, Had a bad headache within 2 hours, My kidneys were killing me, and glands in neck swelled up to size of quarters, the last 2 took over a week for the pain to dissipate. Never again! Guess I'm allergic to it because none of the symptoms are described what I suffered with it. This is from just one dose.

This stuff is nasty. It’s too thick and impossible to gargle. I gave it two chances both times I was gagging and almost throwing up. Another review said that using it undiluted is using it incorrectly, but in the directions on my prescription it doesn’t say to dilute it. All it did was numb my tongue for a good five minutes. It did nothing to help my throat pain from strep throat.

This solution is a Life Saver. I take pain medicines and my teeth has broken at the gum lines. I use this solution to stop the pain and it does. Much better than all your over the counter pain medicine for tooth aches. I highly recommend this medicine. This medication only comes in Prescription Strength. Enjoy and be Pain Free

As others have said, it's impossible to gargle with this thick, viscous substance. And the taste is so disgusting, I can't get it to the back of my throat without gagging and having to spit it out.

I agree the taste is horrid, and it is hard to get it in the back of your throat by gargling alone. I suggest applying a job directly to a Q-tip applying it directly to your sores.

Eh. Could be worse. It doesn't taste good, but it's not the worst thing I've tried. It does work so that's nice. The consistency freaked me out more than the taste.

Mixed mine with liquid Benadryl and Malox. Swished for a few minutes. It numbed my mouth, like a miracle. Then 5 minutes later the pain started to return and now, 20 minutes later, THE PAIN IS BACK IN FULL FORCE. I haven't been able to eat and barely have been able to drink because my mouth and tongue HURT from oral thrush brought on by Covid. If I had a job, I would soon be unemployed because there is no way I could ever work like this. I can't function at all through this pain.

I was prescribed this for a very bad sore throat. I don’t see how anyone can gargle even with 1 tablespoon of the stuff. It reminds me of the smell of clay. There has to be something better out there. I paid $20 for this prescription I never even used it it was so terrible.

I had a sore throat related to COVID and an extremely dry mouth. The Dr prescribed this med and gave me special instructions to take it which I want to share. The pharmacy gave me an extra cough syrup bottle to measure and mix it in. * 1 part Lidocaine V. ( for me this was 10 ml. Basically it is whatever your doctor prescribed) * 1 part liquid Benadryl ( 10 ml for me) * 3 parts Maalox ( 30 ml) I have to say, this mixture makes it much easier to use this medicine, improving the taste and the consistency. I was able to take it every 3 hours as directed not just when I was in so much pain that it became the lesser of two evils. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this until I can get an impacted wisdom tooth removed, and it's the only thing that's given me relief. Just like other reviewers, know this tastes HORRIBLE! If at all given the chance try to make sure it's placed only where needed so it doesn't get all over you're tongue. Does what it says though and other than the taste the pain relief is near instant :]

I use this for acid reflux. Agree this stuff tastes nasty! The pharmacy gives me a syringe so I can get it right to the back of my throat. I can gargle it a bit but it is gross and then spitting it out is bad and that taste lingers. It helps if I rinse my mouth with mouthwash first, syringe the lidocaine and do what I can to keep it in my rear of my throat, spit it out, rinse quick with water then mouthwash.. something minty, after. It helps. For all that nastiness it's too bad it doesn't last a few hours rather than 20 minutes. But it does desensitize the pain enough for relief even if short termRead More Read Less

Horrific sore throat due to COVID-19 infection, this was the only medication the doc was willing to give me. It's the consistency of cold honey, as bitter as a crushed up aspirin, and works for about 15 seconds. I was not given instructions to dilute the lidocaine, but I tried anyway and succeeded in numbing my tongue for about 10 seconds and my cheeks for an additional 5, with no relief whatsoever for my throat. Useless. Worthless. Don't even bother trying it.

Difficult to gargle a viscous state...of this medecine. I think it will work better if you apply it with a Qtip but probably a long one. It did numb the area I was able to handle when doing gargles. It feels like mucus!! Horrible!

Reading about other people's experiences with lidocaine, I was definitely freaked out when almost everyone said that they had gagged or had some other bad reaction when using it. I was seriously stuck between my fear of using it and the pain my mouth and throat were in. I finally decided to get it over with when I realized I couldn't handle the pain anymore so (like my doctor told me to do) I diluted it in water and semi-gargled it (which is hard to do considering the taste is super bitter) so I ended up sort of just holding the medicine in the back of throat for as long as I could stand the taste (about 30 sec) and spit it out. Though I had to wash my mouth out with water to get the strong flavor to go away, it was worth using for sure (it didn't taste good but it didn't make me gag). While the soreness isn't completely gone (I probably didn't follow all the directions as strictly as I should have) I feel a lot better for having used it. Read More Read Less

It tastes horrid. You should be given a syringe to get the medicine closer to the source of the pain, ie: the back of your throat. The instructions were not informative I had to resort to google and your tube. Worse if you don't leave it on for a prolonged time it's efficacy if minimal.

OK so this is thick and nasty, but I just turned the spoon upside down and let it sit in the back of my throat until I could not stand it any longer. You can not gargle it is impossible. It did numb my throat!!
