My PSA level has been elevated (6-10) for over 20 years. I have had 3 negative biopsies. I am a microbiologist with a PH.D in biochemistry and researcher into mycoplasma infection. Mycoplasma has been implicated in non-specific pneumonia and to some extent in urethritis. After a round of treatment with zithromax for a finger infection (self-prescribed) I noticed a reduction in night urination ...

It cleared up my ear infection, but now I have hearing loss that may be permanent. On prednisone to try and save my hearing. Fingers crossed!

Taking this medicine as a child and early 20s was great and I never had any issues. Though, the last time I tried this (March 2018 or so), I took the first dose without food and within the first hour, I had terrible side effects-bad diarrhea, nausea, and light-headedness enough to almost make me faint. I was very close to calling 911 since I was afraid and alone. The symptoms subsided within a couple hours, but I felt the nausea the following day. I do not know if this was because I didnâ??t eat with it and ate ice cream after it, but I was very surprised to experience all that. Weeks after, I went to a GE because I was having burning stomach pain and aches after eating lunch for a couple days-thought I was going to need my gallbladder removed, but turns out my digestive system just could have â??resetâ? after the antibiotic. I donâ??t know if I would try taking it again!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this for a sore throat and fever. Sore throat is gone but now I’m vomiting. I would very much take the sore throat any day over what I’m dealing with right now. I have never dealt with anything like this with other antibiotics. I’m never taking this again.

4 months ago I had the flu and took 3x 500mg of Zithromax about 2 weeks later I developed hearing loss (blocked ears) I went to the doctor who said he could not find anything wrong with my ears. He sent me to the ENT who also could not find the problem. About 5 weeks later my hearing suddenly returned. 2 weeks ago I came back from London with the flu and again went on a 3 day course of Zithromax - suddenly today i have hearing loss in my right ear. It was too co- incidental, so I looked up the side effects of Zithromax...and there it was HEARING LOSS!!! I have no idea what to do now since my job requires me to LISTEN! I am an executive coach. I am praying that my hearing will self-correct hoping it will not take another 5 weeks or be permanently damaged this time. This is very scary. Read More Read Less

I am not going to comment on the drug. My experience was positive, but the patient information clearly states that some people may have problems, some of which can be severe. Everyone has a responsibility to read and make sure they understand this BEFORE they take the medicine. ASK QUESTIONS of your doctor if you need to. I do have a beef with that information sheet, as well as with the online information about Zith. It makes clear that stomach upset, diarrhea, intestinal problems are the most common side effects of Zith. This is true of all antibiotids, and especially Zith. But the literature does not say what you can do to prevent or mitigate these problems-- and it is important that you do so, because certain kinds of diarrhea can be life-threatening. Buy a GOOD brand of probiotics (not supermarket or chain store brands) with at least 12 to 30 billion life organisms per capsule. Liquid forms are available for kids. Take them one hour after EACH dose of the medicine. Take more than one if needed. I do not understand why antibiotics do not routinely come with this information, or why more doctors and pharmacists do not tell their patients to take probiotics. My doctor writes out a script for probiotics each time he prescribes antibiotics, with instructions to help his patients understand (and I suspect, to nudge the pharmacist). As another reviewer said, the cost is worth it. Read More Read Less

I went to Asia then has a flue which leads to Bronchial infections. A Filipina doctor prescribed me Zithromax 500MG (3 pills in a box). Bought at a local pharmacist then took 1 pills a day for 3 days an it works wonders. At first day I can see improvement. Second day iam coughing out mucous which was a good indication of excreting from my system push and infections decreasing. On the third day I am back to normal. This a a wonder drug and had no side effects on me. Warning thou you cannot take this pills frequently. At most twice as your body may become immune so talk to a doctor first and better be monitored by a doctor. So far Zithromax works for me. I would prefer this drug again if I need to.Read More Read Less

Prescribed for chronic bronchitis. Within an hour of first dose side effects set in; severe chest pain, pounding heart, irregular heart beat, difficulty breathing, vomiting and diarrhea. Went to emergency and was admitted. X-ray and cat scan normal. Echo/stress test showed normal, healthy heart, but Afib began after treadmill portion of test. It returned to sinus rhythm after 4 hours. Released after 3 days. Given amoxicillin, which didn't help. Finally got rid of cough w steam inhaler. Zithromax is a dangerous drug. FDA needs stronger warnings. My doc should never have prescribed as I have heart issues in my family and had 33 sessions of radiation on my left breast, which increases chances of heart issues. Patients should always research drugs before taking. I normally do, but didn't this time because I was told it's a common antibiotic with little to no side effects and was very sick. In future I'll quiz the doc and pharmacist and google for patient reviews before taking a new drug.Read More Read Less

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION WHILE ON SEVERE PAIN MEDS!!!! My wife took this medication for a broncial infection. She was also on Methadone for pain management. The interaction between the two caused her to have a severe heart attack thus killing her. She was only 43 years old!! PLEASE DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR LOVED ONES.

I took the 6 250 mg pack for a tooth abscess and it was no fun at all in the side effect department. Horrid stomach pains, slight nausea, woozy headed, blurred vision, loose stools, but no diarrhea (I ate lots of plain soy based yogurt). I stopped taking it 5 days ago.The woozies are still here, and I'm tired, but I will never take it again. I have no ax to grind with the medicine companies, and have no reason to make things up. I will be happy to try an old fashioned sulfa drug in the future. I'm certain that the Zithromax will be out of my system in due time. I'm drinking raw carrot juice, and eating lightly.Read More Read Less

I strongly caution taking this medicine if you are taking an anti-depressant. I take 25mgs of Zoloft and have been for years with no issue. On the third day of taking Zithromax my heart started racing and I felt dizzy and disconnected. On the fourth day (the next morning) I almost drove myself to the hospital. I had my usual morning coffee, then took my Zoloft (all as usual) within a few minutes I started sweating, my heart started pounding, I became dizzy. It felt almost like out of body. The thing that scared me the most was the heart racing. I felt like I was going to pass out. I don't have a problem with major panic attacks, so I know it wasn't that. Up until four day after taking the last dose of Zithromax, I was having palpitations. I called 3 pharmacies and all said that there shouldn't be an interaction. I don't believe them because I've never experienced anything like this before. I know it was the interaction. They all told me it had to be something else. Now, today, a week later, I am JUST starting to feel back to normal. Yes, Zithromax does work. Only after 3 doses I was okay. Although they don't recommend doing that, But if you are taking an anti-depressant (and I only take 25mgs of Zoloft) I really strongly caution you. I know this is what caused my body to go bonkers for a week. I'm hoping today that after I take my usual Zoloft pill I don't get all woozy and dizzy again. Again, something that's NEVER given me a problem in the 8 years I've been taking it. Just use caution. Read More Read Less

Never take this medication. I have suffered from ringing in the ears for 4 days not. I have had loose stool and mood swings. I took the last dose yesterday. I am scared to death. If there's a class action lawsuit, count me in and let's get this poison off the shelves.

Took this medicine on two different occasions and was given a one time dose the first time and a two dose a second time. And both times I had horrible stomach cramps that resulted in a bowel movement. I ate and felt better but really wasn't worth it for me considering I hate having stomach problems

Took this medication for non-gococcal chlamydia. I was prescribed four 250mg Sandoz Azithromycin that I took Friday at 11pm. I had diarrhea by 12am, felt wonderful by 1am. Saturday was rough, felt unwell all day, nauseated, no diarrhea though. When I ate it made me feel a bit better, Gravol fixed everything. Sunday (today) has been fine, mild stomach ache, although it seems as soon as I'm hungry I feel unwell, and eating fixes it. Overall a very effective drug, after taking it Friday night, the pain when urinating was gone by Saturday afternoon, discharge from penis finished same time the pain was gone. Side effects were mild and if you prepare like I did (Gravol, water, light food such as toast and bananas) everything should be okay.Read More Read Less

I (male) have chronic sinusitis and went to the Doctor today at about 1:45 p.m.. She prescribed azithromycin 6 pill T-Pack. I took two pills for my first day (today) at 5:30 p.m. and headed down to St. Augustine, Florida to see the X-mas lights on a tram car with my family. I left St. Augustine at 8:00 p.m. and had a 30 minute highway ride to go back home. As I left, I developed very severe diarrhea cramps in my belly, started to sweat, and barely made it home. Once I got through the garage door, I quickly ran to the bathroom where I had about a 30-minute diarrhea bowel movement. If you are taking this antibiotic, stick around the house until you see how your body reacts to this drug. I also hope that it helps with my chronic sinusitis. I have four days to go (1 pill every day for days 2 to 5. Read More Read Less
