I would like to know experiences of those taking Levothyroxine while pregnant. I just got my prescription and wanted to do some research first. Its been helpful reading how other people are reacting to this medication. I just haven't read anyone's experience who has been pregnant and taking this medication.

I started out hyperthyroid, then it went hypo on it's own. My Dr. started me on a very low dose of the Levo. I have had every possible side effect, except hair loss. I've had high blood pressure for the first time in my life. I am dizzy, I have extreme irrability, anxiety, heartracing and pounding, I feel like I am going crazy. My Dr. gave me the O.K. to go off of it and see what happens. It did help to put my thyroid in a normal range, but I feel awful. I am very shaky and have muscle weakness. I drop everything. I can't think straight. I feel like I am stoned, or drunk. It is possible that my thyroid will go back to being underactive, but I am really praying it will stay in a normal range.

I was diagnosed 7 years ago with hypothyroidism...just about six months after having my second child. I was 25 at the time with no family history. I went in because of tingling in my extremities, especially my toes. After asking lots of questions and doing blood work, my doctor gave me the results. I was diagnosed 7 years ago with hypothyroidism...just about six months after having my second child. I was 25 at the time with no family history. I went in because of tingling in my extremities, especially my toes. After asking lots of questions and doing blood work, my doctor gave me the results. My levels were at 67...many times higher than normal. She put me on 100 mcg of Levothroid and I've been on it ever since. I didn't notice anything as regards appetite loss or weight loss but the fatigue definitely subsided. Recently, I've been experiencing renewed symptoms: fatigue, depression, intolerance to cold, constipation, etc. Doctor did new blood tests and they showed even on 100 mcg, my levels were elevated to 5.7. Not exactly super high but definitely out of range. I'm supposed to see him again in a month and we'll do another blood test before he adjusts medication. Overall, I've been happy with this medication but did go through a period of time where I had a lot of dizziness and tingling in my arms and legs. Had to get MRI to rule out brain tumor but eventually it went away. Have no idea if it was attributed to Levothroid or hypothyroidism but possible. No bad side effects from this medication and will continue to take it as doctor prescribes.

I had my thyroids removed on 3/27/08, they were making me very tired, I had problems sleeping because I had problems breathing, they had grown so large that they had to be removed. Two weeks later they started me on levothyroxine 100mcg, they gave me gas, I was always burping so when I went back in two weeks they increased by dose to 150mcg. Started with a .05 mg dose and experie3nced immediate dissiness. Doc lowered the dose to half a pill, dissiness persisted along with a strange feeling on reclining. Stopped pill immediately. Shortly thereafter I developed double vision. Tempting to attribute that to the drug but no proof of that. Glad to be off it.
