It was a great option for me. i didnt feel any discomfort after a day or 2 once it was put in, and very often i completely forget it is there! even better after roughly 4-6 months of starting the contraception i stopped getting my periods at all - so about 1.5 yrs no period! one thing ive questioned only within the last few months is change in discharge behaviour and less lubrication when aroused -although im not sure if this is a lifestyle effect or an effect of implant or both. i believe this is the best form of contraception against BC. it costed me $30 and lasts 3 years!! Ofcourse the effects are different for everyone but if you dont like it - they just take it out :)

My doctor has prescribed me medication for the bleeding but it hasn't work. I have had this form of birth control for little over a year and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I have had my period since I got it back in April of 2012. My doctor has prescribed me medication for the bleeding but it hasn't work. I only got this bc I had 2 failed IUD's within a year, and this was my next choice bc I had gotten pregnant twice while taking the pill. The mood swings, depression and the weight gain are horrible. I suffer from bi polar and with this heightening my depression I flip at the littlest thing.

I have had the Implanon implant for almost a year now (inserted in June 2012). I wanted to share my experience because it is a positive one and there are so many negative reviews out there. The insertion of the implant did not hurt although my arm was sore for the next day or two once the numbing medicine wore off, and I had a nice bruise for about two weeks (easy to hide though since it was on the inside of my arm). I do still get my period about every month (it is rather random onset although I do still get some PMS so I know when it is coming). It generally lasts a week and is much lighter than it was before the implant. I have had two months out of the last 11 months when I spotted lightly every day. It was somewhat annoying, but not that big of a deal and it did stop after a month. The other 9 months I just had my week long period. I chose the implant because I am heterozygous for Factor V Leiden mutation (I have never had a blood clot though) so my birth control choices were limited. I take a baby aspirin every day out of the utmost caution, and I have not had any problems with blood clots. I also have not had a problem with mood swings or decreased sex drive. My biggest complaint is that it makes it harder to lose weight (not impossible though). I lost 10 lbs over 2 months using a low carb diet and exercise. Before the implant, I could have done the same thing in 1 month. I do like not having to remember to take a pill every day or get a shot every few months. I also like the 99.9% effectiveness of it, and that once I have it removed, my husband and I will be able to try for a baby right away. I am very strongly pro-life so I also like that this is not an abortifacient. I like it enough to have recommended it to 2 different friends. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely choose Implanon again.

I don't normally write reviews of many things but after reading some posts on here I feel like I should share my story too. I originally started birth control with the pill, but when I met my husband both of his sister's had Implanon and LOVED IT. I decided that long term BC would be nice since we had no intentions of having kids (plus I'm going to college full time) I have now had Implanon for almost 2 years. At first I loved it too I never have a period and it sure beat having to take a pill...but since then I have gained almost 20 lbs, Constantly have headaches and mood swings, and I have no sex drive at all. The thought of sex is revolting to me! My husband's oldest sister recently had her's inserted for a second time and now she is having similar symptoms, extreme weight gain, moody, and no sex drive. (We have even had conversations about how we both feel like sex is disgusting almost...I USED TO LOVE SEX now its REVOLTING!!!!) I definitely think its the Implanon. I'm so ready to have this taken out!!!!!!!
