I started on this medication about 8 months ago. At first it was great in preventing my headaches. Still had a few but not as bad as usual. I had every side effect listed. Starting with tingling hands/feet. I felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was always seeing streaking lights or spots. I became very thirsty all the time and nothing tasted good but water. I have lost nearly 22 ...

DO NOT GO ON THIS MEDICATION, I was prescribed this medication for migraines and it has completely ruined my life. When I was on topiramate my arms and legs would go numb and I could not move them, I started to halucinate and have all kinds of mental problems. I also stopped being able to get an erection and lost all sexual feelings what so ever, including acheiving an orgasm. I also developed ...

I began taking Topamax for migraines following a concussion. Only been on it for 1 month and recently passed out in public, required CPR and hospitalization, My BP was at an extreme low as was my heart rate and sugar level. So please read the boring side effects, now what to look for. As scary as it’s been, I’m blessed I’m able to share my experience, thanks to my sister who performed CPR and my daughter who held everyone together.

I'm really not sure how to put this but I've been on 25 MG for 4 days now for migraines. Hate that I had to rate the drug because I really cant rate it. Haven't had a migraine, but I have never experienced this weird side effect that carbonated beverages taste so awful. I thought it was the beverages I was drinking but now that I've googled it I see that Topamax can cause this. Wow..what a strange side effect? Not sure if I can maintain this medication. Also, feeling some pretty extreme existential dread. That could be a genuine reaction to life at the moment but I'm seeing that it has caused anxiety/depression in many others. I'm a bit concerned.Read More Read Less

I was on this medication for 30 days and had all the same symptoms …confusion, loss of appetite, nothing tasted good, increased thirst. In addition to these side effects, I now have heart palpitations, which is a completely new experience for me. I’ve been off of this med for 8 weeks and still nothing taste right and my heart palpitations have gotten to the point where I need to get in and see my doctor again to find out what’s going on. If I could go back and decline ever using this medication, I definitely would.Read More Read Less

After experiencing severe early onset migraines since early adolescence, I was prescribed this medication as a preventive about two months ago on an escalating dosage supervised by a doctor. As soon as a few days in, I began to experience constant tingling in my extremities, including my face. Food tastes almost universally bad. I’m never hungry, but I’m always thirsty, and I only want room temperature water. I feel tired nearly constantly. My joints hurt, my body feels heavy and achy, and I constantly feel like I’m at the precipice of Covid or flu. The worst part is the brain fog — I really can’t overstate how bad this is. I’ve only been on this medication for a couple months, and I’m a full-time grad student. There’s a very palpable difference between before and after starting this prescription. The haziness and slowness significantly outweigh any benefit this might have had for me. I haven’t had many migraines in the past two months, but overall, I’ve probably been *less* functional than I would have been without it. All bodies are different, but this has been a very negative experience for me. Read More Read Less

I was put on this medication along with Phentermine for weight loss and gave it 6 days before I called it quits. -tingly sensations in my toes and fingers -metallic taste in my mouth - dry mouth/ extreme thirst -forgetfulness -extreme nausea - change in taste for carbonated beverages Granted I did lose 1.5 lbs in the 6 short days I was on it, I do not wish the side effects on anyone. I have not taken a dose in over 24 hours but am still feeling the side effects.

I'm on this medication for (it's taking me forever to think of why)... Oh yeah, mood stabilization for bipolar disorder. It seems to keep me at more of a down mood instead of manic and way down as without it. It causes brain fog, umm... heartburn, vivid dreams, unsteadiness, I can't think of the proper words to use when speaking when without the medication I have quite a vast vocabulary. I seem to have low motivation, I'm tired most of the time. This could be attributed to low B12 but my Dr also put me on supplements for that and they don't seem to be working so I'll go ahead and blame Topiramate. I do sleep a lot but I don't. Idk how to describe my sleeping pattern. Hell idk what to blame anymore. Me? You? Topiramate? Not taking anything correctly? Bipolar disorder? Where am I? I hope I lose weight on this junk. I have been on this medication for around 4 years now when I started the medication I was suffering from horrific migraines over 20 pcm. Due to recovery from encephalitis and menegitis. There was no follow up appointments for this illness that had me in a coma for a month and hospital for 2. It completely messed me up. Anyway I weighed roughly 13.5 St when starting to take the medication I am 5ft 9. Within 6 months I had dropped 2 stone, moving forward to now I am now 8st. I have been back to Dr's who kept dismissing that these pills are the cause she told me not to be silly as she has never heared of it reaction. If I can find this info why can't she. Anyway around 18m ago I started getting severe night sweats and lumps under my right armpit they did a ultrasound and said that my lympnodes where clustered and it should settle within a few weeks we'll it hasn't and it's got worse now my other armpit is the same and my groin area is swollen. I went back to Dr's they keep telling me it's menapause. I also went through menapause when I was 43 I am now 58. Dr did full blood works on my all my hormone levels are normal and I am not post menapausal. He put in for another scan at hospital who have refused to do it on the grounds they had done the scan on same area previously and it was clusters. They haven't gone so surely it needs to be investigated further. I have also been suffering from really bad mental health issues which only started since taking this drug. So I decided to research this drugs side effects and everything I am suffering are side effects of this drug weight loss, and also could cause lympadenopathy. Swelling of lympnodes nightsweats weight. Loss ect ect. Has anyone else experienced this. I am going back to Dr on wed and going to present him with my findings. No doubt he will say don't always trust what you read of the Internet well I am affraid Dr this is not just of the Internet drugs. Com but also I have the manufactures drug fact sheet on side effects. So I can't be dismissed. I am sick of this drug ruining my life. As for it helping headaches. It doesn't work for me pointless taking it. I know my body and I know something is not right. I was fine until I started taking this drug. Now I am affraid to leave house. Depressed. Fatigue on another level. Listern to your body. Read More Read Less

I was put on Topimerate about 10 years ago. Not once have I been reviewed on this drug. It turned me into a recluse. I stopped going out and meeting people. I had no interest, motivation or energy. Before i was prescribed this medication I ran successful businesses and was always motivated and energetic. I never suffered with mental health problems, however on this drug I was depressed to the point of planning suicide and the means of how I would carry this out. I stopped taking it about 8 weeks ago and feel like I have my life back. No more suicidal thoughts or depression. Its a vile drug with life altering side effects.Read More Read Less

I haven't been on this medication to long but as a severe migraine patient who gets them so bad I throw up profusely should I really be this concerned? I already suffer with anxiety and depression. My father hates me for whatever reason, I lost the girl I loved so much that I tried ending myself, I'm reading reviews and wondering if not being on Topamax with these feelings is this medication going to make me step over the ledge?

Took for migraines and got off of it after a week due to loss of appetite. I was even puking up water and protein shakes. I lost 25lbs in one week and have still not gained it back. 115lbs to 95lbs. If I took it longer I likely would have had worse long term effects on food. I was not able to eat good for a week and puked everything i took it. My body rejected everything. Dont use this medication.

I was first put on this medication in the late 1990s. Yes, 90s. I've suffered from migraines most of my adult life and when I got an MS diagnosis alongside, my neuro put me on Topamax for the headaches. I only stopped taking it (along with a handful of other medications for other issues) to give my kidneys a break, but took it for almost 2 decades. Other than dry mouth and a bit of insomnia/fatigue I never really had any issues with it. I suffer from anxiety and depression, but the topiramate didn't change that, for good or bad. Migraines were at least partially under control on this medication, which I call a win. My dr is ready to put me back on it when I'm ready because it worked so well and had minimal side effects. Worth noting I have paradoxical reactions to many medications, but not topiramate. Read More Read Less

It was a rough start, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I have an atypical migraine disorder that causes all kinds of horrible problems with my brain and body. A specialist put me on Topiramate to try and treat the visual snow, but it treated a lot of my other problems at the same time. It was a godsend, but after a month, I began having a massive depressive episode. I had NO idea what was going on, and other providers handwaved away me as just having psychiatric problems. I was fortunate to see a nutritionist who reviewed my tests and saw that my Vitamin D was low, a known side effect of this medication, and once that was fixed, I felt a lot better. I most likely had Vitamin D insufficiency for nearly a year before starting the drug and didn't know it. I (and many others!) only experience the emotional impacts of the medication when going up or down on the pill, after a little while it goes away. My life improved; my vision improved massively, my hands worked again, I could walk around, and the pain was massively reduced. I tried to go down on the medication (under my doctor's supervision), but the symptoms that I experienced before going on the medication returned in force. I went back up, hid under a blanket tripping balls for a couple days with flu-like symptoms, and then I went back to normal again. Everything is a tradeoff, and everyone is different. Some people take this medication and experience NO problems; some take this and experience many. Some side effects will go away with time (I have issues with taste; most have resolved with time, but some may linger forever.) But the trade-off for me, functioning body and eyes, is very clear. If this medication doesn't work for you, you can always go off it and try a different medication. Please don't let horror stories chase you away from a course of treatment that may be life-changing; I was so scared to try this one. I'm glad I toughed it out!Read More Read Less

Do not take this medication. I was prescribed topiramate 25 mg for weight loss. I am a 55 year old female. Was on it for one week and the next day day start feeling depressed, cried every day. It caused memory loss. Drove passed my house three times. Felt confused all day. Could not focus. Did not sleep most of the nights. Felt awful every single day and worse as days went by. It gave me chills and felt as if I had a cold. Pain in my jaw and headaches. How can any doctor prescribe such a medication. Read More Read Less
