i have been on u500 now for 6 mths and i like it , but it has caused some very low bs (21-60) and had to call 911. but overall i have gotten it under control and now my bs are no more than 250 and most below 160 and i feel better. but you have to stay on top of this insulin, it will drop you fast.

I was on a fast acting insulin, Dr. changed me to this U-500. It's caused low BG leveles every night,in the 62 to 47 range, it last to long for me. I'm back to the U-100 and about 140 units a day. My H1c levels are in the 5.5 to 6.7 range, so doing good in that sence.

I was on over 200 units of Lantus and Humalog and I could not get my sugars to go down. They would shoot up past 400 to 500 after meals and stay up for 6to 8 hours and start to come down but it was time to eat again. Horrible cycle I was stuck in. Fast forward to now, I'm on 90 units 3 times a day and doing excellent compared to what I was before. My sugars are ranging from 107 to 312. I have not gone higher than 312 and that's after eating!!! And it comes down slow still but not like before. At least I can get to 120 before meals again..I'm still tweaking my dose, Dr said I can go to 120 each meal. I'm doing it slow tonight optimal dose without any lows. I feel low at 107. I did feel low at 140 last week. It's cuz I was used to being so high. This medicine has changed my life! I'm on week 3. I was told that this insulin would possibly cause low BS readings and to be careful, but it did the opposite. My readings went through the roof. I was under good control with U-100 upper 6s and low 7s A1C. I shot to upper 8s with numbers in the 300 to 400 range regularly. It was months before I dropped down in the 200s. It's like I'm taking a placebo. Like that episode of MASH.

While like many others I too experienced low BG's to start with. Whoever, because I use a insulin pump it wasn't long before I made several adjustments to my Basal rates setting 4 different rates through the day. Also I think most importantly is to make sure to change the ISF and the I:C Ratio whether you are using a pump or not. Like any other medication this one requires some real effort to dial in, But I think that if you work with your doctor and DE you will be happy in the long run.

I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1999. I was using diet and then added Metformin.during a very badly pregnancy in 2004, I became tremendously resistant. I was taking 130 units of Lantus every day and 150 units of Humalog at every meal. That is over 12 shots per day. My HbA1c was still over 11. I now take .54 mls of Ru500 3-4 times a day with meals. My sugars stay near 200 and rarely go below 80. My HbA1c is down to 8.3. But my resistance continues to increase. The more insulin I am on, the more I require. Sometimes it scares me that I require so much especially with good diet and exercise. But this drug has significantly improved my life.Read More Read Less

Only been on this medication for a month and so far so good. My blood were out of control, now I'm experiencing low BS which I have never had before. I like it for the most part, waiting to see if my A1C will come down currently around 11.

I was not aware that after 31 days you must stop using the bottle that you have. Are the insurance company aware of this. I will consult my doctor to let him know this information. I have experience low blood sugar about 3:00 AM, whatI have start doing is having a snack before going to bed. Also I did experience several of the side effect such as whezzing which I ended up in the hospital with phenomena, could using the old U-500 insulin be relate to this. Al Price

RU 500 has been life changing. I could not get control and was taking 12 injections of insulin a day just to get into the three hundred area. Before RU 500 my HBa1c was 12. Now it averages 7. I don't have too man lows. It has been a God sent to me.

I am still taking massive dosages of insulin, even with this concentrated formula. I have gained 40 pounds and am absolutely miserable. My BS are slightly more controlled but the weight gain makes exercising very difficult. It is a horrible, vicious cycle.

As long as you check your blood sugar before you dose, you will be fine. Also, be careful at night to not stack up too much insulin.

My A1C went from 11 to 10.4 on U-100 so my DR decided to try U-500 due to my severe insulin resistance. After 3 months my A1C went from 10.4 to 6.9! Be sure to keep something on hand because it will cause lows several hours later due the its peak. I am overall extremely satisfied!!!! Ask your dr for a coupon for the first bottle for free the retail price is $370.00.

Although my blood sugars have gotten better, I still have very low sugars at least 3 or 4 times a week. Right now I am on 25 units in the morning and 25 units in the evening. I am gaining weight and my face, hands, legs, ankles and feet are swollen. My doctor has not returned my phone calls about this matter. I feel tired and dizzy every day. I just feel awful.

I have a problem reacting to both my own Insulin as well as regular Insulin. I was taking 300 units of Lantus, and at least 300 units of Humalog. I gained 20 lbs the first week I was on it. It does take longer to dissolve so I get a lasting effect of it. I now take about 35 units of the U-500 with each meal and am doing fantastic with my sugar levels. The excessive weight gain is the price we have to pay I guess.
