I've had extreme fatigue for the last 15 years. It started after I was diagnosed with Mono and it never went away. I would take a nap any chance I got. After work, I would come home and fall asleep. If that was not possible, I would lay around with no energy to do the needed tasks. I negated my duties as a wife and mother and did the minimal amount. It was an extreme sacrifice to do anything ...

being treated for years with a CPAP, I began having episodes of "narcolepsy" during the day sitting at a computer. I begged for something to help me stay alert/awake and finally my sleep doctor prescribed this. I adjusted to 1/2 of a 250 MG per weekday morning use and generally it works well. Occasionally I take a small additional dose for those tough days. If I forget it, I usually do not try to take it late to prevent problems falling asleep at night. This has been a great help. I only take it on days I am working or if I am driving somewhere on a trip. The effectiveness is enhanced if I can get more than 6 hours of good sleep, more so over seven. I usually can't sleep more than that even when I have time to do so. If I am going to be up and moving around, I don't need it... and don't take it. Low carb diet essential for me also... keeping blood sugar moderated.Read More Read Less

posting my info for others I take 10mg dexmethylphenidate three times a day, 10mg escitalopram at night, 15mg l-methylfolate at night for MTHFR gene (haven't had time to test if a smaller does works better for me), 2-3g of EPA omega 3s a day and AG1 for basic vitamins. Unfortunately I was sick when first prescribed this and kinda plowed through normal low dose testing because I have been sick for so long this year. I started with 50mg one day ( I was sick) and didn't notice anything so just went to 150mg. The first three to five days were great, I didn't need to take my dex to stay awake, only to focus. I felt awake with energy with no noticeable side effects and spent way more time alertly playing with my daughters and was overjoyed. Unfortunately I think it might interact with my other medication. On day 6 my adhd meds basically stopped working. Instead of working for 4 hours they worked mildly for maybe 30 minutes. I was sleeping 9-11 hours a night for the following days and couldn't focus at all on my job. I'm an engineer and I'm not sure how to explain it other than, sure I could go do some yard work or go to the gym but I couldn't get my brain to solve math problems and focus on things that required a lot of context like that. I didn't feel sad or anxious or anything like that. To the contrary I felt overly calm despite the fact I was adding sick days to the already multiple months of sickdays this year between the kids and myself being sick. I stopped the meds for one day and the symptoms got a bit better the next day but then impulsively took another one thinking that maybe it was a fluke because I've had these symptoms before back when I used to drink sometimes it would happen and I would be in this weird funk for 1-3 days. Sometimes I've felt like I need to take deep breaths which is also odd and I'll just sit and stare at my desk with no real thoughts going through my head. Today I took half a dose at about noon to see how that goes because I don't yet want to give up on the initial amazingness of the medication. It felt like I was in my teens again, filled with energy (even if completely unfocused) and cherished the ability to energetically run around with the kiddos for hours on end. That being said I don't have high hopes given the severity of the side effects and will likely stop taking this entirely or lower my escitalopram dosage which is always a bit sketch. Anyway just sharing my experience with folks. As with all medications I hope the this is a tool that works for others and if it doesn't I hope you find the one that works for you!Read More Read Less

I have Narcolepsy Type 1 and I started this medication sometime last year after my father died. I try to regularly take a day on the weekend when I don't take my Armodafinil but otherwise take it daily. I suffer from excessive sleepiness, poor sleep regardless of environmental factors, insomnia, a-motivation, poor mental health in general, and brain malfunctions. I'm average for activity but never exercise. I have eaten poorly about 90% of the time I've been on the meds. That being said, my dose of 250 mg has been nowhere near as many side effects as its predecessor. I sweat too much, and that's the only side effect. I remember the first two weeks being emotional and thinking, "this is it. This is how I'm supposed to feel". Then it faded away but I can still wake up when I never can without my meds or sometimes intense anxiety. I appreciate it for what it is. Just leaves me longing for more. Read More Read Less

Brand nave Nuvigil works better for me than generics. Usually I don’t care if I do anything at all during the day but with Nuvigil I’m just up and about within 15 minutes. No motivation ended. The generics however seem to not kick in as heavy making them noticeable and easy to fight off. The generics also wear off sooner leaving me in a warm fuzzy feeling.

Been using one daily, however I started having heart palpitations, chest tightness shortness of breath. Went through a full cardiology work up due to a family history of heart disease. When I looked up the side effects all that I was experiencing was related to this medication. Now I only take it when really needed and my chest problems went away. Really scared for a time. Be careful.

Nuvigil has changed my life! This medication has given me back my real life! I have taken it for almost a year and my daytime tiredness and crankiness are gone. I wish I had this drug years ago when I was raising children, it would have been a godsend! The only side effect I have had is dry mouth but I have learned to live with that because the benefits outweigh the dry mouth! I take my 250 mg. every morning and my days are much better than they have been in years and years. I hope this helps. I am 56.Read More Read Less

I drive very early in the mornings at different times during the week. This drug has been a live saver, literally by keeping me awake and alert at the wheel. I have experienced no adverse side effects. I have been taking Nuvigol for over a year. Also, my sleep patterns have improved dramatically.

This med has worked fine for me. I truly believe it does help. It is very easy to remember to take one in the morning before the day really starts. I have not had any significant side effects from this drug. It will nto fix nightime sleep problems, but it surely helps during the day.

I'm extremely sensitive to stimulants, even caffeine. I get palpitations. Nuvigil does not give me any palpitations or nervousness. It just makes me more awake, more energy, especially in the evening, when I would be the most fatigued.

I have been taking Nuvigil for about 3 months now, and have experienced some unexpected side effects, specifically related to memory loss and an inability to concentrate. At the end of every conversation I have (or lecture I attend) I am not able to remember anything that the other person said and, even when I am speaking, I feel foggy and disconnected to myself. Also, this drug has helped only minimally with narcolepsy; I am still able to fall asleep anywhere within 5 minutes at any point throughout the day. And the dry mouth is extreme.Read More Read Less

I take Nuvigil 250. I take 1/2 when I wake up and 1/2 around 11:00 am which gets me through the day. It is most clear that this medication works on the days I do not take it and sleep most of the day.
