I tried several other anti-depressants before and was reluctant to try yet another. However, I have been on a does of 300 mg/day since early 2007 and it has been a savior. I still experience the occasional depressive mood, but it is a million miles from what I was experiencing previously and lasts only a short while. Even if a I miss a day I do not experience any adverse effects.

Lamictal changed my life. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor about this medication. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to those who are on meds that have lost their effectiveness because it is simply added to your current ones and there is no need to taper off of them. I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to those who have gained weight on other depression drugs. I was on Lexapro and Wellbutrin since 2017, I was 19 at the time. They worked great for a few years but stopped working after going off of them for a period of time. I started on Abilify in 2021 and while it significantly improved my mood, I noticed I started to gain weight. Trying not to be shallow and since it was working I tried to stick it out. After less than 6 months I gained 50LBS and not surprisingly, it worsened my depression and self image. I went to my APRN and she prescribed Lamictal. After about a year on Lamictal, my mood improved significantly and I lost 45 of the 50 LBS that I gained. PLEASE do not be afraid to talk to your doctor. It is your life and you deserve the ability to make the most of it.Read More Read Less

I am currently taking 100mg for Borderline Personality Disorder, which my psychiatrist says it's "close enough to take Bipolar medication". No noticeable side effects, but dear god take this with something thick. They dissolve fast and don't go down well. Other than that, it works very well.

I've been on Lamictal 11 years now and wouldn't dream of taking anything else. Once I got off Depakote and started on Lamictal, it was like night and day. It mellowed me out, but not in a zombie-type manner. I haven't had one manic episode since I started it. Generic meds aren't effective for me, so I take the name brand, and no they're not the same. There's a 20% difference between name brand and generic. I've tried smaller doses but found 100mg a day is sufficient. I've tried larger doses, as in 150 and began to experience side effects (same with smaller doses, such as ineffectiveness), where I experience NO side effects at 100mg. I've tried the generic version and had nothing but side effects and it (as with all generics for me) was totally useless. Each person is different, but I can guarantee this is by far the best out there!Read More Read Less

I began taking 400 mg of Lamictal ODT last week. I started out at 200 mg two years ago and have gradually increased over time. 150 to 200, then 300 to 350, and as of one week ago, 400 mg. My doctor had adjusted the dosage to help stabilize my mood swings. I also take Buproprion SR (150 mg) and Clonazepam (.5 mg). I take Adderall (30 mg) for my ADD. Since my recent increase with my Lamictal, in a week I have noticed blurred vision, very red eyes, nausea, and I am quick to anger (I've dealt with the anger issue pretty much since the increase around 300 mg). I dread dissolving the 2 pills in my mouth- you can only stand to dissolve those pills for so long. Lamictal was very helpful in my earlier and lower dosages. I think now some modifications need to be made to the 400 mg. since these side effects began and have now worsened, it's become scary. Lamictal also reduced the effectiveness of my birth control. I became unexpectedly pregnant, resulting in miscarriage b/c of the "cocktail" of drugs I take everyday. Read More Read Less

i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2007. i am now on the max (400 mg per day). i am also taking 20 mg of prozac daily. i am much more stable than i was before this medication. i still experience manic periods, and once in a while depressive moods, but nothing like the suicidal depression i was having before starting the meds. pills are chalky and hard to swallow, sometimes gag me. the formulary of my insurance plan only covered the generic brand, and i found myself slipping away again. so my doctor and i got them to guarantee the name brand for me until 2020. yay!Read More Read Less

I have been on it for a few years and it really helps with my bipolar depression. It works about 80% of the time. A few times a year I think about adding some other med to supplement it but it never really helps. Good med!

Lamictal has kept me at a consistent mood. It helped my lengthen the time between my mood swings. I've been taking it now for almost 8 months months. I had stopped it for about two months, but was taken off of it to be on another medication trial then was put back on it right after. It helps control the mania, but it doesn't stop it. I recommend Lamictal to anyone suffering with Bipolar Disorder.

I have schizophrenia and major depressive disorder. I have taken many antidepressants with some benefit, but nothing compares to the Lamictal for my depression. My shrink prescribed this as I was running out of options, and it works great. Most effective antidepressant I've ever taken.

My son has been taking Lamictal ODT 200mg/day (100 am & 100 pm) for seizures. I'm glad to say that he's been seizure free, but my biggest concern & problem with the medication is that since being on it, he has been suffering from severe anxieties, panic attacks, insomnia & is very irritable at times. Also, since being on the medication he has withdrawn himself from participating in school activities or sports with friends. As a mother, I'm very relieved in knowing that this medicine helps him from seizures, but I also truly wish it would not cause all these side effects. I feel his pain when he says, "Mommy, I just don't know why I don't want to be around my friends." As a young growing boy, he should be enjoying himself & not have to deal with these unexplainable fears. Of course, I've brought these concerns up with his doctor, but no known effects seem to be possible. He has an evaluation soon, and I'm hoping some thing can be done to take away these side effects.Read More Read Less

I've been taking the Lamictal ODT Oral 200mg now for five months and have noticed a great difference on it. With just starting with the titration of 25 to 50 to 100. The first week I noticed that I still had symptoms of insomnia, suicidal thoughts, rapid thoughts and voices, along with things not really being there. These symptoms became mild that I was about to feel much better than I had been within the past couple years. I was referred to some many doctors and no one knew what was causing these symptoms, until I had a full blow manic attack that I ended up being hospitalized for. This was the first time someone gave me the diagnosis of bipolar disorder, so finally I figured out that someone was indeed wrong with me, not just in my head. I've been taking the 200mg now for about four months now and I can see the difference along with my family. I've been told, "wow you look like yourself today" which is something amazing to me. Though I do take other medicines to treat the various aspects of bipolar disorder, but I have found this one to be the most helpful. And I recommend to everyone NEVER stop taking this medicine cold turkey, because you feel like you are going down a dark alley and will have all the side effects come to you at once.
