On September 12, 2017 I received a Prevnar 13 shot in my left arm and a flu shot in my right arm at the same time. Within an hour after receiving the shot I had severe pain in my left and right arm. The shot was administered almost to the top of my shoulder. I'm thinking this might have been part of the problem. I had Prevnar 12 the year before with no side effects to speak of. I could not li...

I received the injection 2 weeks ago to left deltoid and did not have any pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site. Have not been exposed to pneumonia as far as I know so unable at this time to review effectiveness of the drug.

The shot was administered almost to the top of my shoulder. I'm thinking this might have been part of the problem. I had Prevnar 12 the year before with no side effects to speak of. I could not lift my left arm above the shoulder for a full 3 days. I had noticeable pain in both arms and to a certain extent the rest of my body for a month. I still have pain intermittently in my left shoulder. This had to have triggered something that was not there before because I had no joint pains prior to the shot. If I had to do over I'd risk pneumonia rather than have gone through this ordeal. Read More Read Less

i was given the Prevnar 13 shot for the first time in 2016 with no issues at all; however this year hI had a reaction with the swelling itching and reddness and hard to thetouch in the area of the shot. Had to go to the ready care to be treated for a drug allergy. I was prescribed 3 meds which seem to have worked. But my concern is that I felt that it worked but what happens next year now that I've had the reaction What will I be able to take to help prevent the pneumonia?

Delayed reaction 3-4 days both arms muscle and joint pain and weakness (4 months and counting) swelling in both arms (left twice the swelling) drowsy and sleeping excessively vomiting Side effects of injection include very sore arm effectively rendered useless. Muscle aches and joint pain without relief would not allow me to sleep.

I received the injection on 10/17/16 along with my flu shot. It's the 1st time for this one and I'll never take it again, the pain, swelling and not being able to move my arm. Within 2 hours of the shot, I could NOT lift my right arm. It's 10/24 today, 8 days later and I can barely lift or move my right arm with out screaming in pain. I was not told of this side effect, nor is it listed. I go back to see my doctor tomorrow.

I have asthma and get bronchitis very easily, so my primary care doctor definitely recommended Prevnar 13 injection. I was doing very well and had asthma under control, a lot of energy; however I got the Prevnar 13 on 9/15/16. I have had some of the lesser side effects like headaches and fever and sore injection site, but that is nothing compared to the difficulty I now have breathing. It has put me back a long way. I now have very laborious breathing and have to take medicine more often. I am unable to do things now that I did very well before having this shot, such as mowing grass, housework and taking walks. It has all but debilitated me. If I walk to get the mail, I am huffing for breath. All I can say is if you have asthma do NOT get one of these shots. I will never get another one.Read More Read Less

I had my first pneumonia shot six years ago without a problem. I had the Prevnar 13 shot a week ago and my arm is still painful, hot and itching around the injection area. Topical Cortisone cream doesn't help, did get some slight relief from an allergy pill. I got pneumonia this year for the first time in my 71 years so the first shot did nothing for me, I doubt I will ever have another one based on its effectiveness and painful results from the injection, just hoping it doesn't get worse.

Since I've had many pneumonias that left me hospitalized, and bi-lateral lung tumors under 5mm and one is a 2.1cm tumor caused from radiation burns during breast cancer treatment over 10 yrs ago; my Pulminory Dr ordered this 13 strains shot. My arm was swollen red clear down the arm for a month after. Have had a fever that is still there nearly 2 months later and I feel like I've the flu. No relief. Tired all the time and feeling anxiety. Anxiety is probably from feeling so bad every day and not having the energy needed to get through the day. Feel hot with a low grade fever and chills at the same time. Don't know what to do about it. I'm 63 yrs old with a past medical history of many auto immune illnesses. Didn't want pneumonia again so I gave it a try at DR's urging. Does it help? I am coughing. Lungs feel heavy and I don't know what to do but ride it out. Thanks. Thinking maybe I shouldn't have had the shot now. Thanks. Read More Read Less

I am 72 yrs old and got the Prevnar 13 injection yesterday around 3 pm. I got a slight headache but that was all at first. Today, about 24hrs later, I have a red welt at the inj site and its sore. I have a breakout like hives under my left breast I just noticed. I thought if I was going to have a reaction, it would have been right away. Not this long afterwards. Hopefully the rash will subside and not get any worse. I got it for prevention of pneumonia and it was reccommended by my primary care doctor. After reading these reviews I will never get another one.Time will tell whether it will be effective or not. I just hope the side effects dont get worse.Read More Read Less

This is a potentially dangerous vacccine for the immune-compromised elderly and for infants. Results include: Pneumonia, bronchitis, and gastroenteritis, resulting in an extended hospital stay & lengthy recuperation. I was healthy prior to the injection!

Got the injection around 11 am at my doctor's office. About 14 hours late I awoke scratching my upper arm opposite of the injection site. By morning I had hives from my scalp to my knees. Both arms, abdominal area, back, hips, thighs to my knees. Went to urgent care got an Rx for prednisone. On day three, the itching is relentless despite topical OTC treatment and antihistamines including Benedryl, Clariin. No more for3 me. I look like a speckled butterbean. I even have hives on the palms of my hands and my ears, and I am miserable.Read More Read Less

Started Fri. with pain at site which spread to whole arm, then to stiff neck and temperature, chills, nausea, fatigue, aching in joints. Woke up Monday with cellulitis in my leg where a had a open sore. Of course Dr. said it was not related and put me on antibiotics. It has required 3 rounds of antibiotics and a round of steroid eye drops to clear up all of the inflamations since the shot.

I got this shot Thursday am and my 4:00 pm I had itching and red all over my groin and upper legs. This area was very hot to touch. I used my grand daughter's Benagryl (liquid) and Cortizone 10 to help the pain and itching. Could not ware anything tight as this made it even worse. Went to Dr (not my Dr he was not in). Dr did not believe this was related to the shot as it was not on my arm area, where I received my injection. But that I should not get any more Pneumona ( pre 13) shot in the future just in case. I was told to try Zinc Oxide Ointment along with the produces that I had been using, keep watch and if it gets worse come back in the next day. Today the swelling, redness and itching is less but still there. I have never had a reaction to any shots for prevention before this one. Have flu shot every year, shingles, etc. This will be the last one I will have for prevention to Pneumonia. Read More Read Less

It has been 5 years since I've had a shot for the prevention of pneumonia so got this shot 4 days ago and was told it was needed to replace and help prevent Pneumonia as I was now 73 years old. I was also told that I would need a booster next year. My arm is now red at the shot site and feels sore, feverish, and hard in a large red circle. I have never been allergic to any shot before so thought that it was just me over-reacting. After reading these reviews I now know it must be fairly common for this to happen. Not sure I want the booster next year. Read More Read Less

Within 4-5 hours of receiving this shot, I became very sweaty, shaky, & felt like I was going to vomit. My heart was racing, I couldn't stand up, had to lay down & was not able to eat that evening. Since then, (6 days later), I've experienced new & on going symptoms. Flu like, injection site still very sore. Achy joints, headaches, dizzy spells. I've never had a reaction to a vaccine before this vaccine. I contacted my dr., never heard back from them, I refuse to get any other vaccine again after this experience. I've been extremely and easily agitated about 2-3 days after receiving vaccine. Read More Read Less
