All I can say is WOW!!! Echoing what some others have said. Armour just "stopped working" and it seemed to add unpleasant side effects: hair falling out, inability to concentrate, cold hands and feet, no (zero, zilch, nada) libido. This past year 2013 - 2014 I swear that it seemed to taste chalkier (like a poofy pillow) and like what ever they were using to "bind it" was keeping me from bei...

OMG! I stopped taking this drug today . After reading all the dozens of reviews. I could not figure out why I was so depressed the last 3 months as well as massive hair loss! The last prescription that I picked up smelled like a dead fish! I also read in fine print that it is NOT FDA approved?? Are docs getting a kick back to prescribe this drug??

It smelled and tasted so bad, I couldn't stand to take it. Asked pharmacy to replace with Armour...which is what was prescribed, but pharmacy gave me NP as the "generic" for Armour.

From Day 1 the smell and taste were so awful that I finally just stopped taking it after 2 months. That horrific smell took almost 4 months to finally stop coming from my body. I had to file a prior auth with my insurance to go back to the thyroid medicine that wasn't on their formulary. NEVER again will I take anything this foul if there are better, more effective and less nasty options.

After trying ALL of the synthetic meds and being unable to tolerate them, my endo tried NP Thyroid and for the first time I didn’t react negatively! It took a few weeks to settle, but I am finally able to make it through the day without napping and can actually concentrate. So far, so good. My only complaint is that it weirdly smells like smoked meat.

In middle of 2017 I went on NP thyroid after being on Naturethyroid. By May of 2018 I was so sick I quite my nursing job. The brain fog, overwhelming fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, and heartburn made it impossible for me to fulfill my nursing duties to any acceptable degree. The med smelled like cat pee. I complained many times to my doctor- “labs look good” he said. Every single day I was getting worse and worse I literally felt poisoned. I’d fall asleep at a red light. I’d go thru drive thru, place my order, pay at next window, then drive right past the pick up window without my drink. Leave my debit card in the ATM atleast twice a week. I had a bald spot on crown of my head, so I’d wear my hair in puffy ponytail directly on top of my head to hide it. Acid reflux so bad I’d throw up which I’d never ever struggled with. This went on for over 2 miserable years, so bad that I thought I had early Alzheimer’s. Finally, I switched to a Doctor of Osteopath and when I mentioned the smell of cat pee- he said “well, that’s ammonia. I don’t know how or why that would be in a pill, but you claim you feel poisoned, and there’s no way I want you taking a pill that smells like ammonia!” He switched me to Armour. Within 1 week, I stopped needing a 4 hour nap daily- I hadn’t gone a single day without a nap in 2 years! My brain began to come back although I’d say it took a total of 9 months to come back fully. My hair is luscious and curly now, heartburn was immediately gone and haven’t thrown up since switching back to Armour in May of 2020. It’s been 3 years and I’m still traumatized by those years. Started NP Thyroid today and with one dose I have had a TERRIBLE reaction. Within an hour of taking it, I became very dizzy which then escalated to nausea and then headache. Not taking another dose!

I've been taking this for a year, 75mg (1-60mg, 1-15mg), no issues. I also take an adrenal supplement, it helps. I take it 1st thing in the morning, without food, and the adrenal supplement later.

Have had a couple of very bad experiences with side effects on this medication. My dr is having me go off immediately to see if side effects resolve. Lightheaded, ringing in my ear, balance problems, achy, chest and left arm pain, extreme fatigue. Possibly has been causing more mild adverse effects for a while. I look forward to going off to see what my baseline is without the medication.

I’ve had headaches off and on for several years but they have been unrelenting for the past 7 months. DAILY! After trying different migraine medicines and trying to do a process of elimination with other medications, it FINALLY dawned on me to consider my thyroid medication. I initially started with nature thyroid and had no issues so never suspected np thyroid was giving me problems. Within a month of switching to Armour, my headaches have all but disappeared. Np thyroid is poison. I hate that it took so long to figure that out. Read More Read Less

My doctor put me on this several years ago. With it came aches and bloating and even more fatigue. I had assumed my thyroid was just getting worse and each blood test showed I was taking too much. The cost became so expensive I decided to just quit! Cold turkey! I haven’t felt this good in years.

I don't know why Kaiser automatically switched me to this from armour thyroid (I too was previously on naturethroid which worked & smelled fine but then couldn't get more of it). I returned the last batch because I thought it had gone bad due to the rank smell. They sent me a new one that smells just as bad. Horrible case of scalp psoriasis or excema break out that coincided with taking this. I can't take it-- I just don't believe that putting something that bad smelling into my body can be healthy. Now reading these reviews I feel validated & will be seeking alternatives & spreading the word to the doctors & pharmacists I speak with.Read More Read Less

This medication is dangerous. I experienced horrible side effects that I personally felt was detrimental to my health and possibly my life. I had extreme anxiety, severe sleeplessness, sweating, chest tightness and im a very fit and active person with no health issues except my low thyroid and NP thyroid literally put my wellbeing in serious jeopardy. This medication is no joke. Its dangerous and I would strongly recommend not taking it. The inconsistencies in the efficacy of the product has been under radar as well. The med does smell but it is easily dissolvable, has fewer side effects that other meds I have tried (levothyrozine, amour, nature thyroid), and my levels are acceptable. I still often have fatigue and brain fog.

Worst experience of my life!!!! After a week of switching to np thyroid I started experiencing severe central sleep apnea. Then I started experiencing anxiety. Then came the panic attacks. Finally I ended up in an ambulance from work, when I lost consciousness. Blood pressure through the roof. I went to so many different doctors I depleted 10 years of savings. All the while my thyroid labs stayed in normal ranges, but my t3 stayed at the high end of normal. Stopped taking it, and I started to feel like a normal person again. This is garbage medicine!!! I would recommend not taking it. It’s ruined my life. Read More Read Less

This is an illegally marketed drug! Besides, desiccated thyroid is forbidden by the American Thyroid Association. For good reason. T3 converts to t4, thats why you should just be taking t4. If you need t3 because a t4 conversation problem they will give you this separate. desiccated thyroid is from a pig and you don't know the ratio you are getting. Besides there are other components of a pigs thyroid that is not the same as humans. I leaned this after being hospitalized with atrial fib from this medication 4 times, I went from being a runner to barely walking with severe muscle weakness, frozen shoulder in both arms and the triggering of Graves because I am auto immune and made me hyperthyroid triggering Graves. Very dangerous med, a good doctor who knows what he is doing won't give out desiccated thyroid. Read More Read Less

This thyroid medication was responsible for causing a horrible pseudo gout attack that I have never had before. This was verified by my physician. This medication should be recalled.

I will say that the first day it made me nauseous but I learned from that and took it with APPLESAUCE the second day and have zero problems since then. I’ve battled debilitating fatigue, mental fog, being cold to my core, and every other symptom there is, I can’t tell you what a difference this has made in my life in a matter of days, it’s life changing.

I started taking this med 1 month ago and I feel almost 100% better. Ya it does smell but who the heck just sits and smells it. So who cares! But one thing I donâ??t like is My whole body has started to swell. My whole body. My head looks like itâ??s sitting on a neck pillow and my anklet looks like and ankle choker. I canâ??t even get my ring off. I swelled with the generic brand so I switched to Synthroid. I had no swelling and I was o k feeling for a little bit but still NO energy. So I switched again to the NP Thyroid. I feel good, just so swollen!Read More Read Less
