I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I take birth control for a few reasons (#1 to lower my testosterone levels, #2 to have a monthly period since PCOS causes a lack of periods). Over the past 3 years I've been on 6 different birth control pills, and Generess Fe is the best pill I've been on hands down. Every female will react different to the hormones in every pill, so my review will ob...

Asked for an IUD, instead was given Generess Fe. Terrible mood swings, weight gain, nausea, and headaches. Felt like a monster 24/7 after very first dose, Stopped taking after the third day. Remind me again why is this allowed for human consumption?

I took this birth control faithfully, at the same time every single day for years. Then I ended up pregnant. My daughter is amazing, but a definite surprise.

I started Generess October of 2012, ended August 2015. I rarely had a "period". If I did it was only brown spotting. I never felt mood swings or anything related to PMS. As if I didn't even have a uterus or ovaries! It was fantastic. I stopped the pill August 10th, 2015 and became pregnant August 26th, 2015. I'm 6 weeks today! So if your scared you cannot conceive because of this pill because of not having a cycle don't! I was so fertile after!

I started taking Generess FE back in 2013 and its been wonderful. Months 1-3 every month the days were shortend until there was no cycle. I have been without a cylce since mid 2014. No cramps, no mood swings, and my face is super clear. I may get one acne bump 1 every 3 or 4 months but other than that I will stay on until further notice.

My background: light random periods, mild acne, oily thick hair, healthy weight & diet / exercise routine. Took depo shot as teenager & COULD NOT handle the 10-15 gain every month & CRAZY mood swings, used mirena iud for 10 yrs only side effect was cystic acne decided to try pills. 1st was Generess Fe, month 1-3 GREAT, skin was perfect no mood swings, hair or weight change, my breast swole about 1/2 cup size but not sore & my stomach was flatter than normal with no change to diet or exercise, I thought I had struck gold on the 1st try. Month 4-6 I began having night sweats almost every night, my natural body temp was higher than normal during day & I had ovarian cysts every month. I have epilepsy & lack of sleep & heat can be triggers for my seizures combined with the terrible cysts I had to stop taking this pill. Within 1st month of getting off this pill I went back to normal so happy for that much. I wouldn't tell anyone to not try this pill as the side effects immediately stopped for me & I do not have mood swings crazy periods or weight issues, just have to find what works for you. I'm 19, and have been on this pill for two years. I was put on it because I used to have incredibly bad periods (excruciating cramps, heavy, long lasting flow, would get really sick to my stomach and have horrible bowel movements). It got to the point where I had to go home from school early one day because I was in so much pain and had so much bowel issues. Basically, several days of my life each month were absolute hell. This pill has been my savior. Ever since the month after I first started it, I have not had a period. No blood at all. Haven't used a pad/tampon in two years. I get almost no cramps during "that time of the month", no horrible bowel issues. I don't know what I'd do without it. I do have headaches sometimes, and I have gained some weight. Those are small prices to pay compared to the absolute hell I used to go through.Read More Read Less

This was my first form of oral birth control, I was on it for about 2 years and I had absolutely no problems with it. My periods were super regular and shorter than before I was on the pill. Still a little cramping, which is expected, and I still had some acne but not enough for me to complain about it. Unfortunately my insurance no longer covers this brand and is making me take a generic brand, I start Junel soon and am hoping it treats me as well as Generess did.

I have been on this pill for 11 days and it has been the worst. I took the first pill the first day of my period and I am still spotting 11 days later when my period usually lasts about 4. It also gave me extreme cramping and made my attitude 1000 times worse than it was before. I have noticed a decrease in sex drive and a lack of interest during sexual intercourse.

I was hesitant to go on birth control but I figured it was time because I would get incredibly painful periods for 6 days with other side effects to the point that I missed school or work. I was prescribed Generess in June 2014 and I love it. It's chewable (I can't take pills) and he has lightened my periods, I have my period 3 days a month, and it's not as painful. I do still get cramps but it's the annoying small cramps. I adjusted to this pill within 2 months. In the beginning I was nauseous and incredibly hungry for the first few pills but that went away by month 3. I did not gain or lose weight. I did cramp the usual week I would have had my period but that went away by month 3 as well. Overall I really like this pill and I'm incredibly upset that I have to switch to a birth control I can afford.Read More Read Less

I'm 18 years old and I've been taking GenerousFe for almost two years now. My experience with the bc has been great! First of all I am not taking it for birth control, I'm taking it because I've had horribly long and painful periods since I was 12 and these pill helped me so much! The first few months on it I didn't see much change but after that my periods were much lighter and not painful at all and extremely regular. I had some nausea in the first few months but that went away, I've also gained about five pounds (which is good for me because I'm very underweight) and it has helped clear up my acne! I am extremely happy with this pill!Read More Read Less

The only symptom I really had was spotting almost everyday which was annoying. However I did like that the pills are chewable. I only stayed on it for four months, however, because my insurance doesn't cover this brand but does others. If my insurance started covering it, though I'd probably go back on it as long as the spotting problem went away after a few months

I got on Generess FE because I just wasn’t having cycles by myself. Ive been on beyaz, yaz, and safryl prior to taking Generess & I HATED all three of those, they made me horrifically moody, super bloated, and depressed constantly. So I got off bc all together for an entire year and THEN decided to try another … that being Generess FE. (Ill start out by saying Ive taken this medication a FULL 4 months before writing this so my body would be able to fully adjust) The first 3 months were pretty rough. My appetite shot up like crazy, my face broke out, I had headaches, I had a little nausea (not too bad), my breasts were SO tender and painful, my libido was nonexistent, and I always had about 2-3lbs of water weight that just wouldn’t go away…So with all these awful symptoms I persevered and kept taking it. Now im halfway through my 5th month of being on it & im in LOVE with it!! As soon as the 4th pack began all my bad symptoms just vanished. My skin cleared up beautifully & has remained clear, my mood is level & I don’t get mood swings anymore, I’m really really happy all the time, I sleep great at night and have high energy during the day, my boobs stopped hurting, the water weight fell off and I always feel lean and skinny (my weight went from 103 to 106 &then back to 103), my appetite went back down & I just eat normal now, my libido is awesome & I want to be close to my fiancé all the time, and my cycle is very predicable to the day (I never experienced spotting or breakthrough bleeding like some people did…Ive started my withdraw bleed 2 days after the brown pills start for 4 months straight) I honestly didn’t believe you could feel this “normal” on a birth control pill, but I feel 100% like myself! I don’t even feel like im on the pill, its insane! I LOVE GENERESS FE!! My advice to future users would be to stick out the bad symptoms for a good 3-4months before giving up…my body took some time to adjust but I came out even better then before I was taking itRead More Read Less

I am a recently married 29 year old, female, who has never taken birth control before Generess FE. Almost four months into it, I have mixed feelings. I have occasional abdominal cramps, bleeding and spotting. Before Generess FE, I had normal periods once a month that lasted 5 days or so. However, my cramps very painful. In the four months I have taken the pill, I have lost almost 20 pounds (which I'm not complaining about but at this point it is borderline unhealthy). I am constantly lethargic and tired. However, for this newlywed, the pills effectiveness at preventing pregnancy seems to be working. Yet, I am severely disappointed in the cost. The first month was a sample given to me by my gyno, who also gave me a coupon to purchased a three month supply for $75. With insurance, for a three month supply, this brand becomes $225 ($75/month). If you are a moderately healthy female who can afford this brand, I'd say go for it. However, the cost is the greatest deterrent because four months is not long enough for my body to become adjusted and balanced. My husband worked for the pharmaceutical industry. Needless to say, I will be researching a new, less expensive brand, and a new gyno. Read More Read Less

I'm a 25yo female that has been taking Generess Fe since May 2012. The first 3 months of being on the pill caused moderate nausea around the evening time that lasted about an hour. I take my pill every day at noon so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it along with my body adjusting to ingesting it. The pill has been very effective for my purpose of taking it (no pregnancies in 2 years). My husband says that I became "nicer" once taking it. Ha! So I guess my mood has improved. Periods are very light (if I have one at all) and only last 2-3 days. My nausea happens occasionally now but not every day like the first 3 months. One thing I didn't know until I researched was that eating grapefruit while on Generess Fe may cause your body to not process estrogen properly rendering the pill ineffective. I'm sure you'd have to eat a TON for it to matter, but still good to know. Overall, GREAT CHOICE for birth control (for me anyway).Read More Read Less

I've been on this for about 3 weeks and the medicine made me nothing but sick, I would wake up feeling fine then take my medicine and go back to sleep, by the time I woke up the medicine would make me feel nauseous & give me stomach pains and very bad anxiety,I also couldn't eat much and lost 5 pounds over a week . The pain and nausea would get better throughout the day, but not until late at night, it took complete control of my life, I was bed ridden for a week , and it also made my depression worsen! I wouldn't recommend this to ANYONE to try. Read More Read Less

I was on Loestrin 24 fe for a couple of years and began having horrible side effects(hair loss, mood swings, painful periods, etc, so my dr prescribed generess fe. At first, compared to Loestrin, this pill was heaven sent. After about 5 months of being on this pill it became hell! I gained over 30 lbs in about 6 months. I know that this is bc of the pill bc I began working out twice a day and eating healthy (something i never did prior to the pill). My breasts were huge and i gained weight in places that i NEVER gained in my life. I even had neck fat. I began crying at the drop of a hat. This pill was horrible!! Very satisfied with this pill. I have been taking birth control for 10 years. The last 2 years I've been on generess fe. I've experienced no problems at all. I haven't had any spotting or breakthrough bleeding. In fact, after the first month, my period completely stopped. I stopped the pill a week ago at the end of the pack, in hopes to conceive in the next few months.

I’ve always had extremely painful cycles causing me to clock out from life for about 3 days. The first 6 months of this med I was a mad woman. Emotional, crazy, pissed at EVERYBODY and sweating like crazy. But I kept it up because I just had one of my ovaries removed due to spreading endometriosis. Finally I realized I have to get stay ahead of my emotions and EAT. After about a 8-10 months I mellowed out, now it’s my best friend. My cycles are lighter, shorter and less painful. (I’m less crazy too, my boyfriend confirmed it.)Read More Read Less

I'm giving this 5 stars for effectiveness because I'm baby free, but this pill has been a challenge! I thought it was weird that it's chewable, but the minty flavor is totally fine - especially when taking in the am. I was on BC for 17 yrs and went off because I was break thru bleeding on everything and the nuva ring gave me chronic yeast infections. After 4 years of being BC free I decided to go back on the pill now that I was in a serious relationship (I'm 34). The first month was horrible. I started the pack on the day I started my period and bled the ENTIRE MONTH. My 2nd month wasn't much better. I had exactly 2 weeks of happiness with 2 random days of spotting and then started break thru bleeding on my 3rd week that didn't stop until I was done with the brown pills. My 3rd month has been pretty much the same... break thru bleeding started in the 3rd week almost exactly a week before my placebos. This means I have a 14 day long period! This time I feel and it looks like I have a light period. There has been no weight gain and no bloating with this pill, but I did have a case of cystic acne on my chin this month (which I haven't had in years!). I also have had cramps and very tender breasts which is not normal for me. I suffer from migraines and this pill hasn't helped or made them worse. I promised myself I would stay on this for 6 months to see what happens. Fingers crossed it gets better! Who wants to have their period ALL THE TIME? Not this girl! I wanted to write a review in case there are other women out there spotting the whole time - I looked and couldn't find many other women in my position. Read More Read Less

I started taking this only a month ago so I suppose that my body hasn't fully adjusted yet, but as far as effectiveness, this pill seems to do its job. I used to have extremely irregular and excruciatingly painful periods. I would get ovarian cysts regularly and during the month that I have taken this, I haven't experienced those problems. It has also made my cramps a lot less painful. The only problem that I've had is acne. I already had slight acne but this prescription has made my face breakout pretty badly. Since this was my first time on a birth control medication, I'm only taking this as a sample. I have 2 pills left in the packet and then I'm starting Balziva to see how that works. All in all generess fe seems to be a pretty good pill, but I really don't want to have a bad complexion. I'm hoping that Balziva will work effectively and also clear up my skin. Since medications have different effects on everyone, I can't say that it will work for all who try it or that they will have the same side effects; but it had worked fairly well during the time I've used it and I think that the good outweighs the bad.Read More Read Less
