I have been on Xarelto for one month. For the first 2 weeks I had no side effects but the longer I stay on it the more I have noticed that I am exhibiting symptoms I have never had. I am having muscle spasms around my eyes and eyelids. I have seen an opthalmologist and all is fine but they continue and are very annoying. I see that a side effect of this drug is muscle spasms. Also, I am itching a...

Good grief... The longer I am on this the worse I feel... Crushing headaches and indescribable pain mainly in abdomen, lower back and legs are off the clock... I feel like a little old lady shuffling towards gods waiting room. Can't take this much more as it has pushed me to the edge of mental abd physical endurance after only 7 weeks and I am on no way exaggerating my view. How many suicides is this vile and toxic medication responsible for? It may work for some but those of us that don't get on with it REALLY sufferRead More Read Less

I stopped taking Xeralto because it caused internal bleeding. Now I have $600 worth of pills that I cannot take.

3 1/2 years ago, I had a pacemaker installed due to LBBB from Lyme disease. After about a year, it reported AFIB. I was immediately put on Xarelto as a precaution. In the ensuing time, my arthritis got worse, which I attributed to growing old. I even had a total right knee replacement a year ago for pain. Since then, I have been having trouble with edema in my right leg, with chronic sores appearing. They would start as black splotches under the skin and become open sores, which had a hard time healing and bleeding. In desperation, I stopped Xarelto for a week, and the sores began to heal. During this time, I had a chance appointment with a cardiology doctor who said to get back on Xarelto as soon as they healed. I had asked him for another Rx, but he refused, saying Xarelto was best (at $500+ per month). It's been another week off, and now my arthritus has abated. My outlook is much better; I can walk without a cane. I am back to doing the physical activities I did before the pacemaker. (The ejection fraction is now back to 75%, so something helped along the way, but it wasn't Xarelto.) I have decided to stop for good. I will leave it up to the doctor to find another, but I now know the debilitating symptoms of this drug and will be on the lookout for those from others. It was an insider's gradual appearance that slowly drained me physically and mentally. To say I have been healed by stopping this medicine would not be too dramatic! Read More Read Less

Been on Xarelto 10 mg for almost 3 years after I had iliac bilateral femoral vein stents which caused blood clots to stick to stents. Had to have surgery to replace stents. I am miserable constant stomach bloating, water retention, back pain, groin pain, leg pain. I can't take anymore torture. I need to get off this medicine.

I’ve been on this medication for about two weeks and have been experiencing horrible side effects. I was diagnosed with DVT on my left calf and was prescribed 15ml twice a day and need to switch to 20ml once a day once this dosage is done. I’ve experienced horrible leg pain on my right leg, had to go in for an ultrasound to make sure there wasn’t a new clot and there wasn’t. Next day I couldn’t walk, laid down for a bit with a heated blanket on the painful area and could not put my foot put down on the ground to walk. I was immobile for the rest of the evening. The pain continued through the week. WOMEN BEWARE: If you are a menstruating person with already heavy periods this will make your period EXTREMELY heavy. I woke up in a pool of blood and it did not get any better. I’m currently waiting for my appointment in a couple of days to address this issue. It’s absolutely ridiculous how much emphasis they put on talking about paper cuts when I was prescribed this medication but nobody took the time to talk about how severe my period might get. When I brought up my concerns about my periods already being heavy the thrombosis specialist shrugged it off and told me to talk to my primary care doctor about it. I’ve been experiencing dizziness, swollen ankles and calf, pain on my legs that keep me from walking, extremely heavy periods, my mental and emotional state is dire and it seems some people have been experiencing depression too so it might be from this because I was feeling fine before getting on it. And the fear of bleeding internally keeps me up at night. My clot was “small” and not on a major vein. I don’t know why I have to be on such a high dosage right off the bat. I don’t know what other solutions there but I need them to get me off this medication asap!!!!! Read More Read Less

I ended up in hospital with afib and rapid heartbeat that took days to calm down. they took me off current heart meds and put me on new ones, xarelto being one. Due to the experience, i decided to give statins another try but now i want off. in the past i did use fish oils and they did lower my cholesterol. But side effects are piling up. i already have CF/Fibro and it has exacerbated my muscle pain. i am sore all over. more than that, i have intense muscle spasms that prevent me from exercising. in the morning i need to get off the bed quickly or have to endure another painful spasm. i do notice an increase in brain fog. i just read it can cause low platelets which i already have. lastly, i got a small cut on my hand and was shocked to see it clotted! before, when i was on natural methods i would bleed for a bit before it stopped. i will be getting a ct scan for blood clots soon which should tell the story - as i was not on blood thinners for months.Read More Read Less

I started taking Xarelto after having two pulmonary embolism’s caused by my antidepressants. Taking Xarelto was one of the worst experience I’ve ever had the drug was making me feel anxious confused every day I started getting bad anxiety, I would wake up with nose bleeds. I was having joint pain, headaches irritability, stomach issues after I stop the drug my symptoms all went away. Yes.Pharmaceutical medication is good to save your life in a lot of cases but not for long term use. It will cause problems. I’ve had such horrific experiences with pharmaceutical medicine I’ve decided to go homeopathic and I’m doing 1 million times better had I stayed on the Xarelto I would’ve committed suicide that’s how bad it affected me be very careful with this drug. It may cost you your life. Read More Read Less

I got a DVT/PE multiple blood clots in lungs after I got the second vaccine. Never been ill in my life. Active. No history. i was put on this and now, the Doctor keeps making me get multiple blood tests, 19, the first time, 10 the second times, for stuff that he did not tell me was not covered by insurance. Tests keep coming back now, nothing there and he continually wants me to come in and do blood work. My PE was in March 2022. I do not like this, I have dizzyness, fatigue and horrible dreams. This is my third day off/already mysleep has been better. They keep calling demanding I come in for blood tests and want me to be on this drug after he told me four month ago he would take me off it. I smell something stinky. I'm scared to go off of it because they made me feel like I need it to live, but the tests suggest otherwise. Very stalkerish.Read More Read Less

I was told I needed this for life due to PE. I started having pain in my toes, then knees, then upper leg joints, and both shoulders and arms. When it went to my chest muscles, I told the Dr. I wanted off this poison. He offered another poison, coumadin. I went to a blood and cancer Doctor. He said I had Factor 5 in my blood but it all looked good and he took me off that stuff. I've been off it for over 2 months and the pain in my muscles is still there but getting better. I take a baby aspirin, B6, natokanaise and it's working. Before the PE I was taking a testosterone supplement, which can cause DVT and also had the covid shot just 2 months before. I also drove 1200 miles on a trip. The perfect storm. If you are taking this poison see a blood doctor instead of your regular doctor. See what they say. Just saying it's your body. I haven't had any of the side effects mentioned by other people on this site. I would rather take this medication than risk a blood clot resulting in stroke or death. I am aware of my body and many symptoms related to my age, spinal issues, arthritis and genetic makeup. Before condemning a medication, I hope others would consider their underlying conditions.

5 days after getting the Pfizer Covid booster my mom went into Afib. By the time she got to the ER her heart went back into normal rhythm on its own. They put her on a heart monitor for 1 month and was told she needed to be on a blood thinner to prevent blood clots and they started her on Eliquis. Within 24-48 she started having severe joint pain and swelling in her wrists and ankles. The heart monitor showed no signs of Afib. After 6 months of dealing with severe pain the doctor switched her to Xarelto and put her on a heart monitor again for another 2 weeks and also ordered a stress test. Still no sign of Afib on heart monitor and stress test came back normal. Blood work also normal. The doctor finally agreed to let her off the Xarelto. It's been 1 week and she is starting to feel a little improvement. I hope this continues. She was always a very active, on the go person. The Eliquis/Xarelto knocked her down and the pain was unbearable. She was in tears because the pain was so bad. So glad she is off this drug. Read More Read Less

Reason for use is atrial fibrillation. 1st pill woke up next day total loss of use of left leg. 2nd pill resulted in total loss of right leg. That's all I took. After quitting my leg function returned. Physical therapy was over but subsequent to this experience it was extended for 3 months so insurance must know about these types of side effects.

I am 64 and have had 2 episodes with DVT and PE. Dr. put me on Xarelto and it has worked for my breathing. 20 mgm a day 1 pill. Better for me but, I have had this feeling in my foot like a pressure building and two of my toes feel weird. They are not completely numb but are like they are wrapped with something. The real problem is the knee pain and mostly the muscle pain in the leg/groin area like I have been doing a ton of squats. Dr. said I could switch to Coumadin. I have reservations about that but right now I feel 90 years old. Never had this pain before Xarelto...never. Reading all these comments I see the same problems. I want off this stuff. I am told I need to be on thinners the rest of my life but I can't take this stuff any longer.Read More Read Less

Several months ago I was diagnosed with my 2nd pulmonary embolism, the first having struck in 2011. At that time I was put on Warfarin (coumadin), which bore the burden of mild muscle weakness and severere bouts of fatigue. I discontinued use and took my chances. With the 2nd embollism,I knew I would have to go on anticoagulant medication, this time for life. I was utterly dismayed by the reviews of Xarelto, which painted a very bleak picture indeed. However, I am happy to report that after 3 months of use, I have experienced no discernible side-effects. (The Warfarin made me fatigued within 24 hours of use). In hindsight, I think there is more motivating for people who have terrible side effects to write reviews. I wanted to add my voice to the mix in order to say that, while clearly this drug can cause with miserable side effects, it is not a given! If you need to be on Xarelto, I hope you, like me, are amongst those who can tolerate the drug well. Read More Read Less
