I was given Rifampin along with Levaquin to control a staphylococcus infection (non-MRSA) in my surgery wound. The bacteria is lodged in the metal hardware, and they have made a colony. The doctors say it will be there until they remove the hardware after the bone heals. (about 9 months).I have had no problems with Rifampin, and so far I don't have any symptoms of the bacteria in my body. It m ... Show Full Comment

Comment:
Rifampin was used following IV antibiotics (vancomycin) to treat MRSA in a surgery wound. No side effects noted other than discolored urine and lethargy.

I saw the other review regarding being perscribed for a staff infection (which was my case) and thought I should comment. I did not have any adverse sife effects and I was taking this with Doxycyline as well. It really does depend on the indivdual. My doctor gave me this medicine because I had a staff infection.This medicine is used to treat tuberculosis, I had all the side effects nausea,vomiting,headache,fever,muscle weakness,joint pain. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days with renal failure. I only took this medicine for 3 days. It took me weeks to recover after I was out of this hospital.
