It will be my first time taking this supplement(Ginsana), which has the ingredient of glycerin to promote oxygen uptake and enchance energy. I also take B12 and multivitamins. I also take BP meds.

I have been on a couple of sites where "glycerin allergies" are discussed. Conspicuous by its absence in these discussion is any mention of the fact that there are at least two very different sources for glycerin. So, I thought I should mention it for those with allergies. The classic source of glycerin has been from the processing of ANIMAL fat, or triglycerides. A single fat molecule (usually a solid at room temperature) is composed of a glycerin molecule and three attached "oil" molecules. Rendering or processing the fat releases the oils (usually liquids) and the water soluble glycerin.. More recently "VEGETABLE glycerin" is also being produced (from palm, coconut, soy, or even PEANUT oils). My grandson (who has many serious allergies and Celiac disease) seems to have skin reactions (rashes) to the vegetable glycerin, but NOT to the classic animal glycerin. It may not be the glycerin itself, but traces of processing chemicals, or even the source plants used. This may explain the problem, but it does make the selection of "safe" products even more confusing.Read More Read Less
