well so far so good! I just had the Mirena inserted yesterday, I haven't even had it in for a day and the cramping has already stopped. I haven't noticed anything else happening just yet but like I said it's only been a day. I think everyone reacts to things differently, I was on the shot for over 2 years and had the worst time with it as far as weight and mood changes, so maybe this B ... Show Full Comment

It works very good as far as for avoiding pregnancy..the side effects is what is bad..Starting with very bad back ache..mood swings..Until I read diffrent articles here and my primary Dr. told me the reason for my backache was Mirena and get it removed i really beleive him I going to get it taken out asap..the backache is so bad over the counter meds don't work...I'd rather take pills...

Wow! I am so glad that I found this site. I had mirena inserted 6 weeks postpartum in Nov. 07 and was not told of all of these side effects. I have been blaming the hair loss on postpartum even though I didn't lose any hair after my first child 3 years ago. Every time I brush my hair long strands just fall out. I have had this birth control for almost 2 years. The fact of not getting pregnant is great I have a 4 and 2 yer old we want more but not right away so this is great. Now to the not so great since insection in june06. I have gained 40 lbs., sex hurts or I am just not interested, and my hair has gotten thinner. It did make my periods lighter but they will last 2 days stop for 2 days then come back ... Show Full Comment

The mirena IUD was an excellent form of birth control as I lost any interest in sex. I also was a hormonal weepy mess and had to have the IUD out after only 3 months. I also experienced cystic acne and occasional uterine cramping. If you can tolerate hormone birth control, then this probably is a wonderful method, unfortunately, I can't and had to go back to ortho tri cyclen low.
