I thought mirena would be a safe form of birth control for me since I had really heavy and long periods before I had my son. I was hoping it would lessen or stop my periods altogether. But it was not completely effective. I did not get pregnant, but it made my periods worse. They last for months now. Heavier than before. And I rarely cramped before, and now it rarely stops. I was nauseous, gained weight, depressed, had mood swings, and even had a bit of "dripping of urine" on this med. I felt terrible for a year until I realized all these symptoms were from the Mirena. If you begin to feel ill after having this thing inserted, have it removed because you will not feel better later, but worst as time progresses. Having it removed was the best thing I did for ... i got the mirena almost 2 yrs ago now and it has worked, however ive had many side effects. i did not find getting the mirena painful at all, but this is probably due to the fact that i have two kids. during the first yr i had severe pms, especially moodiness and headaches. those side effects have disappeared now, however i have gained 35 pounds and have lost alot of hair in the past year. althoug ... I HAVE HAD MINE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW.I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH MIRENA. I LOST A LOT OF HAIR SHORTLY AFTER HAVING IN PUT IN, I HAVE GAINED WEIGHT, I AM MOODY, I CRAMP FOR 2 WEEKS BEFORE I HAVE MY PERIOD, I HAVE ACNE LIKE A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL THAT STAYS AROUND FOREVER. i have had the mirena in for about 3 years... i like it... i have two kids close in age. Wasn't painful at all when it was put in. Just a tiny pinch after that i had only spotting and very mild cramping and now 3 years later i feel the weight gain, cramping (not so severe) but very uncomfortble abdomial pain not what i thought but it kept me from getting pregnant and it is good.. i do recommen ...
