I had heard about mirena and it sounded great. 5 years and no taking the pill etc etc. I did a LOT of reading and found the reviews 50/50, some people LOVE it others HATED it. anyway after much research I got it in. was SOOOO nervous! having it was in was quick but very painful, it was like labour pains I actually cried out like in labour but it was all over very quickly and from then, no pain or cramping. I had mild spotting. my main concern was the possibility of mood swings. I am already prone to depression and anxiety. Well the Mirena just turned me into a monster. I was so snappy at everyone, stressed already with two school kids and a newborn baby, I did not need this. Gosh if there was a Mirena that had the opposite effect, almost a sedative that would be what we need! I battled on for 6 months at my lovely Doctor's advise, she said my body might settle down. But at the 6 months point I just had to get it out. I told my husband I was getting it out because of the mood swings and he very carefully said Yes he'd noticed that. So out it came - no pain at all. As for contraception im back on the pill and on the waiting list for my tubes tied because we really are done now. My anxiety has been worse than ever even since having Mirena out. Now i've started on Zoloft (again) and feeling like a new person. I'm happy and relaxed for the first time in a very long time. what us women have to go through. Good luck to anyone getting it, I really wanted to try it and wanted to love it it just wasn't for me. I think you need to be a naturally calm relaxed person to have Mirena. The ONLY problem for me was the mood swings.

Horrible experience! I am 27 with one live birth, I have had the IUD in place for 5 months and I cannot wait another hour until I go to my ObGyn to get it removed. Severe changes do not even express how much this has changed my life to the worst! Horrible experience! I am 27 with one live birth, I have had the IUD in place for 5 months and I cannot wait another hour until I go to my ObGyn to get it removed. Severe changes do not even express how much this has changed my life to the worst! From anxiety and panic attacks, to horrible dreams, suicidal thoughts, depression, hair loss, weight gain, then weight loss, constant headaches, beyond extreme fatigue, complete loss of interest in life, love, sex, everything! This "drug" should be banned completely! I cannot even concentrate to put a sentence together normally. I feel robbed of 5 months of my life, my child's life, my boyfriends' and family's lives, even my poor dogs life! This is a true nightmare for any woman! Horrible experience! I am sure there are some women out there who have had wonderful experiences etc., but I myself, at 27 should not be experiencing symptoms of a 55 year old woman going through menopause. No thank you Bayer, even your aspirin will go into the trash! So long!

My doctor recommended Mirena, but like many others I was hesitant after reading reviews. I decided to go for it, and 4 months in I'm so glad I did. The insertion was painful, no doubt, but my doctor did a great job of talking me through every step. (Basically I felt sudden intense cramps exactly when she said I would.) My cervix is apparently set further back than some women, so it did take some coaxing and maybe about 10 minutes, but we were successful without any other drugs. I also got my blood drawn, so the combination made me a little lightheaded, but after a few minutes of drinking juice I was ready to go. I experienced a few days of light cramping, but nothing I hadn't felt before with a period. The one downside that initially discouraged me were periods that began light, got heavier, and never seemed to end. The first month I had a 19 day period and then another one of similar length a week later. It felt like being a teenager again because I really did not know what to expect with flow and length of cycle. My doctor assured me that this is normal for up to the first 6 months. Now, about 4 months in, I have a period so light that I do not need a tampon. I did experience one weekend of sharp, very short, cramps early on, which my doctor told me to continue to monitor, but she suspected it was just my body adjusting. Other than that, there have been no negative side effects. Everybody is different, but I am grateful that Mirena is working for me, and want other women to be reassured that it can work for them, too.

i read the reviews about mirena most of them where negative. every woman body is different so i wanted to try at least . and it was the worst decision!when i first got it i bleed for 3 months i was about to go and take it off but the bleeding stop so i keep it . after that i notice i got constipated alot!!!! i would go to the restroom maybe 2 times a week . and i went from 115 pounds to 130 in one ... i read the reviews about mirena most of them where negative. every woman body is different so i wanted to try at least . and it was the worst decision!when i first got it i bleed for 3 months i was about to go and take it off but the bleeding stop so i keep it . after that i notice i got constipated alot!!!! i would go to the restroom maybe 2 times a week . and i went from 115 pounds to 130 in one year!!! it was horrible i decided to take it off i hate it i also never got periods and when i was suppost to have them i only get bloated like 4 moths pregnat belly full of air! and alot of cramping!! i would not recomend this to anyone!!! i had insurance so i only pay my coopay $20.00 but if you dont have insurance please dont put it you would loose all of your money!!! and they wont give your money back!!! so think about it!!!

I have had the Mirena for a year. I got the Mirena because I have two children, and really do not want anymore, and some friends of mine stated they loved it, so I tried it. I am now getting ready to have it removed in a couple days, due to having some problems that may relate to it. The insertion was fine, did not hurt, though I did have horrible cramps for a month to follow. I have had a period every month for and it will last for two to three weeks. So the only relief I have from a period is about a week a month. I have suffered from lower back pain on and off since I have had the Mirena inserted. I have had cramps so horribly bad that I have been hunched over. Recently, in the past couple weeks, I have became very angry, and not wanting to be around my husband. Everything he does annoys me. I don't want him to look, talk, or even touch me. So I am going to have the Mirena removed, and if that is not what is causing problems with my mood, I will talk to my doctor about other options.
