I am on my second Mirena IUD after having the first one in a little over the 5 years that it is effective. I have not had any problems with my Mirena. Insertation went smoothly, just a tiny cramp when my cervix was touched, and a couple minor cramps the rest of that day. Within the 2nd month of having it, my period had completely stopped, no spotting at all. I was a high risk according to my docto ... Show Full Comment

I am giving my review today because reading bad reviews kept me from getting Mirena for over a year!! I have had it now for one month and doing great!! The reviews about the actual procedure scared me to death, but with more knowledge and reading accurate and positive reviews I went for it. The total process took about 15 minutes and the "pain" many talk about will all depend on your tol ... Show Full Comment

DO NOT LET YOUR DOCTOR MAKE YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO KEEP THIS IN!!! IF IT IS NOT WORKING AND YOU HAVE THE SIDE EFFECTS THEY SAY YOU CAN'T HAVE DON'T LISTEN. YOU ARE NOT CRAZY, YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY HAVE SIDE EFFECTS FROM THE IUD. IF YOU WANT IT OUT AND YOUR DOCTOR WONT DO IT, FIND A DOCTOR THAT WILL!

Was terrified of the horror stories I read about mirena, so glad I just gave in and tried it. I am 26, no kids. Very uncomfortable insertion followed by intense cramps for one day, and spotting for 3 months. I almost gave up, so glad I didn't. Now my periods are SO light (I went from needing multiple super plus tampons in one day to being fine with a regular size and never filling it up) my cy ... Show Full Comment

I had this inserted in October. I had my normal period shortly after and have not had another since. No spotting either. I do not even know it is inserted. No side effects at all. The initial insertion was very, very painful but passed within less than 5 minutes.
