My son has been taking this medicine for about a year now for his ADHD. He is almost 6 now. The doctors couldn't give him a stimulant because he also has a mild form of Tourette's and a stimulant would bring out his ticks. So now after a year of use, I have noticed a HUGE change in my son. He is more calm and reasonable regarding situations which he use to not have any patience for. And it's not t...

I am an ill person with a lot of problems. I am on other drugs that says I need to be very careful taking Guanfacine ER HCL. I don't have high BP. I just have anxiety and severe depression that has been severe due to a doctor harming me. So this extreme anxiety is due to my situation. I do not want to add more drugs that may cause me more problems. My pharmacist questioned me taking this drug. My doctor doesn't know my history well. I don't feel comfortable taking it. I am not ADHA or ADAD period and never have been. Any thoughts?Read More Read Less

I have been on guanfacine for 3 weeks it helps my blood pressure, but doc put me on it for sleep. Sleep no more than when I wasn't taking it. I get headaches, constipation, dry mouth, dizzy, nervous. I want to stop taking it.

I take Guanfacine to help me go to sleep and I can actually fall asleep now. It is amazing. I did have to increase to 3mg but sometimes I actually sleep through the night. It helps me STOP thinking, or my brain to stop racing.

My son was put on this medicine at 3 years old for autism and not sleeping at night. At first, it worked great but then it stopped working and they upped his dosage thinking that would help. He had major behavioral regressions and outbursts, he was very emotional. We are stopping this medication.

My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, insomnia and sensory processing disorder. She has been on this treatment plan for a month and her behavior is emotional, aggressive, and paranoid. We tried to stick with it hoping it would get better but it only seems to be getting worse. We plan to stop this medication

So, initially, this medication worked great for me, but after a recent dose increase bc the lower dose stopped working, i will probably stop this medication soon. It doesn't help me one bit anymore, if anything, it just makes me feel worse. I feel emotionally numb, disconnected from the things around me, and Im dead tired all the time. Even if i sleep 8hrs at night, I inevitably pass out for 4 to 6 hrs right when i come home from school. It feels like all i do these days is go to school, eat, do homework and sleep. Oh yeah, and not to mention, the dtug make it insanely hard to lose weight and extremely easy to gain weight if you don't wanna watch your food intake very closely all the time ......It's not fun.... the only good thing about it is that it normalized my previously high blood pressure (unrelated) . Still, Ill probably see about getting back on Ritalin instead of this, despite the side effects..... I just wanna feel like me again.....Read More Read Less

My 6-year-old boy has ADHD. We started with 10mg Vyvanse and then increased to 20mg. But it was not effective and caused him lost appetite and having hard time to sleep. And the my doctor prescribed the Guanfacine XR 1mg. As soon as we started Guanfacine, I noticed the symptoms seemed not getting any better. He had very unstable emotions and even had hallucinations (always worried about the water will dripping on the wall and the floor), couldn't sleep at night and felt insecured. This never happened before!Read More Read Less

I’m a recovering ADDICT! I refuse to go the stimulate route due to it making people dependent on it. I tried Guanafacine XR at 2-3 mg. I can tell you if your looking for results instantly like a amphetamine it won’t do that. I care about my treatment process and want little side effects. I also have high blood pressure. Over the 3 month period I have increased social skills and am improving a lot now. It has to be the XR version. The non XR wasn’t effective. Look I’m even typing a long message lol and it makes sense. Helps with my ptsd and anxiety as well. Will say because I am an addict I miss the high so it gets a 4 star for that. A 5 tho for thoughtRead More Read Less

Since starting Guanfancine 2 mg, I’ve experienced substantial improvement in my working memory and ability to focus. I’m also on 40 mg of Vyvanse, which I refrain from taking on weekends in order to prevent the buildup of tolerance to the stimulant medication. Even on the weekends, I still have enough focus and memory skills to get by… not quite as good with the Vyvanse, but it’s a nice base to have. In fact, the 40 mg of Vyvanse feels almost too much now… like I’m a bit wired and robotic when I’m on it. I’m going to ask my doc about cutting to 30 mg and seeing what my experience is. With guanfancine, you will have to keep an eye on your blood pressure if it’s normotensive. If it drops too low, I’d suggest increasing your salt intake to bring it back up :)Read More Read Less

11 year old daughter became extremely and progressively agitated and even super aggressive after taking this drug. She was on 1 mg and had rages then doctor changed to 2 mg and she was having extreme rages almost daily over small things. She has broken things, trashed her room, called family horrible names and just been downright mean. Not the kid I know and love. Stopped the med and after almost just a week I already notice a difference. No rages and not as rude and disrespectful. Slowly getting my child back thank goodness.Read More Read Less

I am 53 and had been taking Strattera for 22 years, but had to stop taking it after having open heart surgery due to Covid complications. The Strattera was contraindicated for heart patients. After 2 years, I need a replacement for Strattera in order to concentrate and stay on task at work. I don't take stimulents due to their addictive nature so my I found Guanfacine. It worked two fold. It allowed my to stay on task at work and over a 24 hour period with no ups and downs. And, it helped keep my BP under control. The first 3 weeks, I notice the tingling in my legs, but that went away soon after. I have NOT noticed the sleepiness everyone else talks about. It does help you sleep at night (I take it at bedtime), but generally speaking, if you don't want to sleep, it won't force you to. Overall, its a godsend for me. Keep in mind that I am a very long-term confirmed case of ADHD. If you are looking for an afternoon pick-me up, this is not for you. If you don't have ADHD, then you may want to look at Strattera which has a much stronger effect.Read More Read Less

7 yo daughter just started 1 mg 3 nights ago. We started medication on a weekend so we could monitor her throughout the day. She seems very drowsy but functional. She has completed her homework at school so far this week (major improvement from 2-3 hours every evening at home) her thought process seems more capable to focus. She is capable of sitting and completing a movie for the first time. Downside: major complaints of upset stomach (but there was already some complaints prior to starting medication) Will update as time goes alongRead More Read Less

My sweet lil daughter was diagnosed with ADHD. First day of this med and can already tell the difference with her speech. Stuttering improved. Shes more responsive too. We tried Rita and Conc, but the rebound side effects were worse. So I thought switching her to a nonstimulant will be better because the stims were giving her insomnia despite of melatonin and she has no appetite on it, and dont want to give her controlled substance and the stims are addictive as well. Heres hoping things will be better with Intuniv. Read More Read Less

We were prescribed this medication for sleep. My son is Autistic so it's obvious sleep is hard to come by. He became sad, moments of crying, and severely irratiable. We tossed that prescription right in the trash after dealing with that for three days!

I've been taking this medicine for about six years now and I've had health problems in the past so I never thought much of it but recently I've noticed a trend. Even if I get 9+ hours of sleep a night I still find myself nodding off in class and having slow reaction times. Sports are becoming increasingly harder for me and my drowsiness is CONSTANT(also this part's embarrassing, but ever since I've started taking Guanfacine I haven't been able to go #2-- after I eat anything, even just a granola bar, my stomach starts cramping up and making noises, but yeah obviously I don't normally go around talking about that). However, the biggest problem I noticed was when I went off my meds for a few days(the pharmacy was backed up). I had to skip two days of school because I was sweating profusely, I got dizzy very easily, my face was red and splotchy, but mostly I felt like I was cooking from the inside out. Even though my body temperature was average, I felt like I had a horrible fever. The worst part is, the medicine doesn't even help with my inability to focus(mostly spacing out) or procrastination. Yeah it might work for some people but that's just my experience.Read More Read Less

I take 4 mg at night. Iâ??ve struggled with racing thoughts and an inability to turn off my brain and fall asleep for nearly a decade. Started Intuniv at night 3 months ago and itâ??s been life changing. This medication does not immediately show effects like a stimulant. It took a couple weeks to start to notice the changes. I had always been on stimulants before but they did nothing to help me sleep. My doc pulled me off those and put me on this alone for a month. My sleep improved drastically. However, I still had some symptoms during the day. They were reduced, but not enough. So after a month, they added a low dose of Adderall XR in the morning and I take this at night and it has worked wonders. After 12 years of medication ups and downs, I finally feel like weâ??ve nailed it. Read More Read Less

My daughter has adhd and Anxiety and cerebral palsy. This is the only medicine so far that has worked for her. The only problem We are having is tiredness so we are working with her dr to figure out the correct dosing for her. So other than tiredness this Medicine has been extremely effective for us.
