I have had A-fib for over 30 years on an irregular basis. I averaged one episode a year until June of 2006. That is when I started having A-fib 3 times a week on average. My Cardiologist has tried many drugs to control it. Finally in September he put me on Flecainide 50mg twice a day and I haven't had a sustainable episode since. I can feel my heart wanting to start A-fib, but it goes back into no...

My cardiologist put me on this for AFIB. Prescribed as a pill in a pocket that I would take only when needed. The dose was 150 mg x2. Each time I took it my heart rate only subsided by about 20 beats a minute staying way over 100 beats a minute. Normal heat rate would resume about 12 + hours later. This pill made me feel like I had a horrible hangover. Extremely lightheaded, dull headache and it was like my balance was off. I even had my blood pressure checked and it went up by about 20 points. I tried this about 10 times but just couldn’t handle the side effects and it was not doing the job for me!! By the way I’m a. 62 y/o female 127 pounds otherwise very healthy & active. Recently diagnosed with AFIB & stroke 8/20/22 ((pretty much full recovery) Read More Read Less

I have been taking Metoprolol for about a year. It's horrible! I'm dizzy and worn out and just going up stairs I have to stop for a moment. The doctors at UVA are requesting a stress test to make sure I don't have Ischemic disease. Once cleared of that, they will put me on Flecainide. I'm hoping this will eliminate the Metoprolol symptoms and eliminate my heart flippy flopping. I need to be able to do chores without having to stop and rest so I don't pass out. Worried a little about how it affects your eyes. The nurse said it'll make me blurry for a few days but should clear up. Pray.Read More Read Less

This medication that I've been on for years, flecainide, worked for me most of the time, but not all of the time. I think the med has been putting me into heavy thumping PVC's and AFIB at times so my doctor has me weaning off of the drug.

I’m being treated for PVCs, my pvc was a 17% burden before an attempted cardiac ablation (which was unsuccessful). That same day I was put on flecainide 50mg Q12. It took my PVCs from 17% to 2%. i have a lot of side effects from this medication and I don’t know if I even want to continue taking it. Every day I get short of breath, ringing in my ears and extreme lightheadedness that will come and go fairly quickly and fatigue. I also get the occasional chest pain, blurred vision and tingling in my arms and legs. The amount of times I’ve been in the ER for these symptoms thinking that something was seriously wrong is ridiculous and scary. Read More Read Less

I had six AFib episodes in a period of 10 week’s time. Very wearing on me. So I decided to take Flecainide twice daily on the advice of my cardiologist. (50 mg each time) It has been very effective. Been taking it for approximately a month and I have not had any more episodes. I was experiencing a lot of anxiety before but since taking the Flecainide twice daily, the anxiety has been greatly reduced. I am calling this my Wonder medication. Been happy with the results so far!

After 8 months of serious A-Fib, and one cardioversion that worked for a day, I had a second cardioversion and started on Flecainide. That was 2 years ago, and I have since had only 3 A-Fib recurrences that have lasted for just a short time--probably my own fault working out in the sun and not drinking enough water. If I hydrate well, even working outside on hot days, I seem to be okay. I have had no concerning side effects of which I am aware. At first after the cardioversion I took 100 mg Flecainide twice daily, now down to 50 mg twice daily. I have also reduced Metoprolol from 100 mg twice daily down to 0.25 mg once daily very occasionally for a few days if my BP begins to go up. Generally, BP is around 120/80, and resting heartbeat 55-60, which is a little slower than before I had A-Fib and before I started on Flecainide. I am now 73, and for me Flecainide has been a life saver, making normal activity possible again. I do strenuous gym exercise 2-3 times a week, walk 3-5 mile at least once a week, work vigorously outside on a 13-acre property on a regular basis, and teach a class or 2 each semester at the university for which I worked before I retired.Read More Read Less

Taking Flecainide 50mg BID, and Metoprolol 50 mg BID. Have MVP, always had arrhythmias but I started blacking out. The new Med has been a god send, seriously! Not 100%, but much, much better. The worst side effect for me, is sweating. I’ll be a seriously sweaty freak all summer, I can’t tolerate the heat at all! We have a swamp cooler, and I’m miserable, just wet all the time. Anyone else have this problem?

Do not take this medication without a pace maker in place! My mom took one pill and it lowered her heart rate to the floor. She passed away! Please read warning labels and be cautious

My cardiologist had ordered metoprolol for over a year for Afib and tachycardia.I had low B/P anyway. The faster my heart would go, the lower my B/P went. Stairs, standing, stress pouring sweat happened a lot. When I told my electrocardiologist my symptoms, he had me stop the Metoprolol and ordered Flecainide to try.I was amazed at the difference! A week after starting it,I moved and was able to take on stairs, packed for 6 hrs straight, started back to work again and even the horrible sweating stopped- when I would get stressed or in a hurry. I can feel tired out after work, but nothing kicking back an hour couldn't cure.I am 73 yrs old and for the past year, I couldn't work and couldn't keep up with housework. I couldn't even stand long enough to cook a meal for myself without feeling nauseous and dizzy. I thought I would soon have to go to a nursing home, as fast as I was declining.I am so thankful for my electrocardiologist. This medication has brought me back to life and given me the ability to live it fully. I'm afraid to think where I might have ended up without it.Read More Read Less

I was on 100mg BID took it for one day. I was 2 weeks post ablation for A-Fib. I developed major 8/10 chest pain and Shortness of great after second dose. Caused my HR to go up 134. Chest pain was persistent for 4 + days and developed new Endocarditis from it. I don’t recommend this drug post ablation.

I started having AFib episodes over 6 months ago. I was put on metoprolol and eliquis but the episodes continued. I started the Flecainide about three months ago and haven't had any AFib episodes, and no side effects to speak of. I'm encouraged by the reviews of people who have been taking it for years with good results.

Not one episode of afib or elevated HR or B/P since on Flecanide 50mg 2x daily. Very concerned about side eff. possible. Have had short episodes of dizziness, ringing in ears pretty constant and weight gain . See there could also be more heart risks.

Been on this medication for approximately five years at 100mg twice a day and it is successful in preventing atrial fib. I was on metoprolol with it daily but I was so exhausted decreased vital signs shortness of breath that I quit taking it daily. I only take one 25 mg of it if I get a little tachycardic which Flecainide itsself can cause. That brings my pulse down and with it the blood pressure and I feel fine. I also make sure my serum magnesium is at the higher level of normal because low magnesium can trigger atrial fib. I also avoid the triggers for atrial fib which are alcohol, dehydration, stress, exhaustion, and two others I cannot control which are age and familial instances. Read More Read Less

I started off with 75mg 2x but after two years was increased to 100mg 2x. My speculation was due to weight increase (plus 20 lbs. from A-fib onset). Have been taking for over 4 years and have lapsed into A-fib maybe a dozen times since I have been taking Flecainide. I feel the med is very effective for me.

I endured super ventricular tetracardia for several years. Finally wore a heart monitor and they prescribed this drug which stopped them. Haven't had one since being on the drug.

This is only my first day on Flecainide, but I immediately felt it take effect -- no episodes today! After 2 solid weeks of nearly constant a-fib, my doctor prescribed Flecainide in addition to Metoprolol and told me to abstain from alcohol completely. (BTW, I was an avid runner for many years, and the doc thinks this plus my frequent indulging in wine caused my condition.) I think this drug is the answer, but I am a little worried about how drowsy I've felt all day -- I hope this is not from the drug.Read More Read Less
