Last year my Internist directed me to take 4000 IU of Vit D due to a test deficiency. After 6 mo. of thaking the 4000 IU from an oil based capsule,(Carlson brand) another test showed a continued deficiency and told me to increase it to "at least 6000 IU." I bought a product: Life Extension (brand) Vit D3 7000 IU "special purpose formula" of cholecalciferol and have taken it xs 5 wks. Now having weakness, general malaise, bilateral upper arm muscle pain, increased joint pain hands, shoulders, knees, hips, fatigue of hip/buttock area, flu like sxs, brain fog, and metallic taste in mouth. Called the company and their counselor advised me to D/C use. Live in Pac NW with record cloudy/cold season this year. 67 yo female with hypothyroid and no gall bladder. Advice to normalize vit d level economically which was 27 5 wks ago??? Read More Read Less

When I take it I about 2 to 3 hours later, my abdomen swells and I start to have abdominal pain. I am very uncomfortable. In addition, I have constipation, bloating, flatulence, malaise, and headache. I have a long history of kidney stones and I cannot understand why I have to take such a high dose. I live in Colorado and get plenty of sunshine. As a nurse, I have seen "diseases" come and go as far as being in style. It use to be lactose intolerant, now it is gluten intolerant and Vit d deficiency. I have quit taking the Vit. D and within a day, I felt much better. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed 50,000 units a day for a month then once a week. After about 2 weeks I started belching sulfur smells, so we went ahead and switched to one a week. I immediately noticed an increase in energy. I have MS.

I have been taking Sockeye Salmon Oil capsules, which have Vit D (85% Daily Value) in them for 5 yrs, or more. Read about D3 importance, and added Dr. Mercola's sublingual (under tongue) spray, has 6000 IU in 6 squirts. It comes in a convenient little bottle that I carry in my purse (do not leave in car)- love it - really easy, and has spearmint taste. I am in good health, never broken a bone and only take calcium from food source - brocoli, skim milk etc. At 67 I lift weights and do Tai Chi. Read More Read Less
