I have used sulfasalazine for 3 years , started working after a month and everything been great for 2 1/2 years with no side effects but it's no longer working for me , getting more pain every day

When doctor wanted me to start taking methotrexate. I researched that drug and did not like what I was reading. Found SSZ thru online search and asked to try that instead. Docs was ok with that, but said he had more confidence in MTX. Been taking 500mg of SSZ 2X/day for 2 1/2 years, now. Overall this has been a good medication for me but the amount was excessive and I had quite a bit of hair loss with UTI's. Toleration to the light is almost unbearable though, my eyes hurt.

I was diagnosed with RA about 8 months ago at 47 years old. This is the 1st medicine I've been prescribed w/ Prednisone 5 mg. I have now increased to 3 500 mg tabs 2 times a day and stopped the Prednisone. Pain is definitely decreased. Hands are no longer swollen. I can type all day at work, like I used to with no problem.
