I can not tolerate statins. The dr just started me on this drug. Been taking it for 2 months now and it's working for me. My LDL went from 163 to 123 so far. I take 2 fish oil for the triglycerides and that brought that down from 300 to 100, so that combination is working for me. I don't have any side effects so far and I'm very very sensitive to drugs. Hardly can take anything because of a sensiti...

Absolutely cannot tolerate statins. I have had ZERO side effects from Zetia. My cholesterol is lower by 12-15 points which is good enough for me considering that I am 71 yrs old and have family history of high cholesterol. I'm very happy. Not sure why so many folks are blaming the Zetia on a myriad of health issues that may or may not be related to this drug. For me it's a godsend.

Backstory...On Lipitor for 2 years with tolerable muscle issues. I started to LEAN to the right while walking for a split second occasionally. One day,I could not raise my arm above the hip. Stopped Lipitor and both problems went away in 1-2 days. Convinced to try Zetia, I developed crippling stomach cramps, nausea, intense headaches, poor appetite, feeling drained day 14. I started with the LEANING to right again while walking 5 times in one day. Stopped Zetia 10 days now...all stomach and balance adverse side effects gone. That's a NO for me times 2.Read More Read Less

Cardiologist put me on this along with generic Crestor for high CT calcium scores. Had been on atorvastatin for years with no issues. Hardly any improvement in LDL, HDL went down despite 3-4x high intensity workouts each week. Watch what I eat. Side effects were bad gas, stomach pains and who knows what else after reading posts here. No upside and all downside. Took my last one yesterday, and will never touch this drug.

As far back as I can remember I’ve had high cholesterol. My doctor put me on zetia because I didn’t trust or want a statin. After months of taking Zetia it has lowered my cholesterol. Still a little high but much better. I do experience muscle pains but delt with it. Now I’m pre diabetic which can happen with this drug. I am so frustrated, they want me to stay on the cholesterol medicine and if I need to they want me to take another medication for diabetes. My thoughts is to stop this medication. They give you one thing and you get something else from that then give you more drugs. I lost weight, excercised changed my diet and I’m at a loss. I don’t want to be on all these medications. Will talk to my doctor and hopefully figure something out.Read More Read Less

OK, after a very bad experience with statins (Simvastatin) and a muscular reaction (that became permanent) in my right leg, I was prescribed Setia (Ezetimibe). I took it for six months, FOUR MONTHS WITHOUT ~ANY~ SIDE EFFECTS. Then.... holy moly... Fatigue, depression, thoughts of death. Diarrhea, joint and random muscle pain in hands, knees, back & front of legs. Blurry vision with bad testing from optometrist. Exceptionally painful cramping, leg, foot and area around ribs! Occasional dark yellow urine. That was the last two months of taking this drug.... now I know it has only a one or two day half life and I could stop cold turkey so I did on June 18 2023. So I know that this drug cleared my system by the end of day two. But guess what? I've had over two months of the same type of side effects. Talked to the doctor and she couldn't understand it, but I did. This drug makes your body crave it even without in no longer in you. It's had a lot of time getting it in your body and now that you want it to leave.... it will eventually leave.... but on it's terms. Since I apparently am super-sensitive to drugs like this, it'll leave but it's going to take time. So far, it's been over 2 months and the pain it gives me is almost unfathomable. It IS getting less and less but I'm guessing that I won't feel normal again for a few more months. And although it IS getting better, it's unbelievable that this medication's side effects may be exceedingly difficult to be free of and absolutely unbelievable that the doctors don't seem to know anything about what can happen to the 2% of the population that may be affected.... Certainly we deserve better!Read More Read Less

My cholesterol was off the charts for years. It wasn’t until changing location and getting new Dr that it was ever discussed and for several years their were higher priority problems to get under control. At that time, my Dr suggested Lipitor, which I refused, so he suggested Zetia, explained how it worked differently and rarely but wouldn’t need blood tests. With me, it worked and has for many years. I have improved my diet and maybe Lipitor would’ve worked better but for me, it’s PERFECT!

I have been only taking 5mg for 7 months now. ( I cut the 10mg in half) I thought I would work up slowly to let my body adjust to the drug. It worked and lowered my cholestreol. I am on a low fat diet and I exercise daily. I have no other health issues. I have no problems with Zetia and I feel great. I am sticking to 5mgs.

Statin sensitive. Nearly hospitalized due to reaction. Went vegetarian to reduce LDL to get to 70 per physician to reduce potential cardiac event. Went on Zetia 6 months later when LDL was 110. First week belching. 2nd week gross fatty stools (turned out to be steatorrhea upon later testing). Weeks 3 and 4 began severe muscle aches and pains similar to the statin. Discontinued per physician. Still dealing with after effects. Developed pancreatitis! Liver enzymes went out of normal. Developed pancreatic enzyme insufficiency requiring Creon enzymes to replace what the pancreas could not do. Two months of steatorrhea went by with symptoms more under control. Should be a black box warning on this poison. Still vegetarian with LDL 105. Not too bad but my gastro system is still out of whack. Read More Read Less

I took just four pills of Zetia during four days and it caused such a severe pain in my arms and back. Even one month after stopping the medicine, I still suffer the pain. It is a POISON PILL.

Wow. I was given Simvastation when statins were first prescribed, before they knew about CoQ10. I had a horrible reaction but it took me 18 months to realize it was the medicine. I moved, got another doctor and she prescribed another statin, and I had a serious reaction in four days. She recommended Ezetimibe (Setia).... and I didn't notice any reactions in six months that could be associated with this new drug, except I was slowly becoming depressed and was extremely fatigued. Then it dawned on me to research this drug. Here is the list of problems: Diarrhea, joint pains, blurry vision, belching, foot, leg and muscle under rib cage cramping, and on occasion dark urine. I stopped this drug 4 days ago and some of the reactions have stopped. I'll be talking to my Doctor very soon. I was shocked this drug has so many hard to tolerate side effects. I was shocked that it would be recommended to someone who can't tolerate statins with both drugs being horrible on muscles. I understand they work differently, but the side effects are horrible, very hard to tolerate. But from now on I will research any and all new meds prescribed for me!! BTW my cholesterol is usually around 200..... Read More Read Less

My physician suggested Zetia because I cannot tolerated statins. After about 2 weeks I developed some ankle discomfort. I stopped the medication, and within a few weeks, the discomfort resolved. But, about a month later, I tried the medication again. This time, I developed severe achilles tendonitis. After 8 months of different treatments, it has not resolved. Do not take this medication

I am allergic to Lipitor so was put on generic Zetia. I haven't had a lab test for a few months so I don't know if its helping any. When I started this my cholesterol was at 260 total. I used to be pretty active but now my hips hurt so bad sometimes it is hard to get up. I have distended veins in my forearm that hurts, I get hot flashes, and I have had a cough going on a year now. The last few days I have this weird prickly sensation in my face. My doc sees nothing wrong , told me to take cough meds. Read More Read Less

Terrible headaches, the second day I felt like I couldn’t think straight,my heart was racing,my face was very flushed. I have no other health issues. I don’t smoke or drink,so I’m going off this medication and hope the science behind this is wrong. I was told by several cardiologists friends that they are not really sure if high cholesterol even cause heart attacks. So I think I’m going to think of quality of life. Good luck to all.

I tried two statins. Within 24 hrs I had severe stomach ache, gas, headache. I stopped each of those after the first pill. Dr says try this, it work’s differently. HELL NO. Within two hours, Stomach is just in a knot. Very painful. Acid reflux is killing me. Bloating, my normally loose pants are tight around the waist. Headache and hot, feverish feeling to my face, like sun burn. Not taking another pill!!! So uncomfortable, AGAIN.

I have genetic high cholesterol & am intolerant of statins. I have arthritis with three replaced joints ( 2 knees & 1 hip so far at age 73). My cholesterol is 360 with an HDL of 103. I have tried several statins all of which caused severe joint pain on top of my arthritis. Headaches were also an issue. I have had several cardiac work ups including a stress test & cardiac cath & echo heart test. Despite the high number, there is no damage. My doctor insists I need a medication to lower the cholesterol! She placed me on Zettia which she says is not a statin & does not have the same side effects. Actually, I have to say the side effects from this medication were worse!! My arthritic pain became unbearable after 2 months. The CBD topical cream, heat & other methods I used to help arthritic pain no longer worked while taking this. Migraines became more frequent. I will not restart this medication after 2 1/2 months. It is all about quality of life. Read More Read Less

My husband took this drug for several years. Cholesterol and triglycerides came down. Over the last 10 months he started complaining with horrible vertigo attacks..fine one minute..throwing up and unable to stand the next. Then his legs started getting weak..so we started walking to build up muscles...over a few more weeks it just hurt too bad. Then his hips and shoulders started hurting..to the point of not sleeping at night and unable to raise his arms over his head. I've read here that it takes about 3 months to get back to normal after you stop taking it...January 31 will be 3 months...and he has good days and bad..but days that i wonder if it's worse. He's very discouraged and so am I. Someone please tell us that this will pass and he will get back to being his normal active self. The last few months have been terrible for him. Looking for hope..and prayers please.Read More Read Less
