my dermatologist started me on accutane 20 mg once a day for 5 days ,stop for 2 days ,and on for 5days for one month. does this sound correct to treat acne. Should he have given me 2 doses , iam 95 lbs

I understood going into this that the drug had severe side effects. Before I took the drug, I was suicidal from low self esteem due to the severity of the acne. So I felt I had nothing to lose! I took the drug in my late 20's. I am now in my mid-late 50's. I've experienced plenty of the negative side effects. I have hyperpigmentation in my legs which makes them look dirty. I understood going into this that the drug had severe side effects. Before I took the drug, I was suicidal from low self esteem due to the severity of the acne. So I felt I had nothing to lose! I took the drug in my late 20's. I am now in my mid-late 50's. I've experienced plenty of the negative side effects. I have hyperpigmentation in my legs which makes them look dirty. So I have to wear pants in warm weather. I've had chronic problems with conjunctivitis which I've learned to manage by washing my eyes each day and avoid letting myself get run down. I am getting a worsening case of dry mouth and dry throat which requires I keep water by my bed at night. My throat is so dry, it feels like leather. If I don't drink a LOT of water, bowel movements feel like I'm trying to pass on a hard stone brick! So internally, it appears the drug impairs the mucous-producing glands that lubricate the digestive system. On sunny days, I wear sunglasses as the sun nearly blinds me. Perhaps this sounds like complaints from an unsatisfied customer. It is not. Were it not for this drug, I would not be alive today to complain about the side effects! This drug will change your life! Do not even consider this drug for any but the worst cases of acne. The price you'll pay for fair skin may be too high unless like me, you're certain you'd be dead if you don't take it! Not for the faint of heart!

Thanks to a bold Dr. and brave parents, a desperate patient was finally getting help. Accuatane changed my entire life. My acne cleared, usual dry skin, nose bleeds etc.. side effects during treatment but no lasting or reoccurring issues 30 years later. It pains me to see people that can be helped not getting the treatment they need when they have severe acne. It's not just being beautiful, it's taking away very real scars and pain. That's my story and I hope it helps anyone worried about long term side effects.

Battled cystic acne since i was 13 (i'm 33), and I'm on my third round of accutane. Round one of the brand name drug worked wonders in 5 months and I was pimple free for two years. Only side effect was constipation and dry skin plus of course the breakout period, then 2 years later I had twin babies and my acne cysts came back in full force. I was put on the generic Clavaris Accutane and it was pure junk. Did not work at all. Made my acne worse, scarred my entire body, and I had a laundry list of side effects plus scary headaches! My cysts that used to just be on my face had now traveled to my arms, wrists, chest, back, thighs ect it was a nightmare. Plus they got infected and were horribly painful. After 7 months of promises that it would get better, my doc took me off it and has to treat me for a staff infection I had developed from all the open cystic sores that weren't healing. 6 months later I got a new job and moved to another state, saw a new derm for my skin and guess what? Got put on accutane again. I told him of my previous ordeal and he put on my script (my ins company only covers Clavaris) that another particular generic brand was medically nessessary. So now I'm taking Ammnestem and I'm on month 3. Here's what happened with this one, only side affect is dry skin, dry lips and eyes, and some mild constipation. I had the 2 month break out period, but it was not that bad and now everything is starting to heal. I cannot even see the pores in my nose anymore. It's weird. If you have had skin as bad as mine, you would be as amazed as me to see pore free looking skin. Each pore on my nose used to be able to be seen and had junk in it. Now you cannot see anything. The new generic Iis working. Stay away from Clavaris if you can, it was a pure nightmare that left terrible scars on my face and body.
