I discovered I had Hepatitis C genotype 1a Oct. 2007 when my gastroenterologist ordered blood work before gallbladder surgery. She suggested I have the treatment especially since my viral load was fairly low (300,000). I spoke to 2 other physicians (one a relative) and they both encouraged me to have the treatment. I took the highest dosage of Peg-intron in the redipen once a week and 1200 mg. of ...

I became ill, nervous and fatigue the first 2 months after that my systems decreased. I administered my shots myself after my Doctors instructions. No problems

I HAVE BEEN ON THIS FOR 44 WEEKS NOW. I ALSO TAKE RIBAVIRAN AND WAS ON VICTRILLAS FOR 36 WEEKS. MY VIRAL LOAD AT START WAS 4.5 MILLION AND AFTER 3 WEEKS OF TEATMENT THE VIRUS WAS UNDETECTABLE. WE WILL SEE AFTER 6 MONTHS OFF TREATMENT IF IT IS STILL GONE. THE FIRST COUPLE MONTHS WERE A NIGHTMARE.

Side effects were as described. EXACTLY. I did not clear the virus, but that's not the medicine's fault. Type 1b. Planning to do again when protease inhibitors are released.

Wow. Stories are scaring me. I will not start PegIntron Redipen or Ribavirin until 3/09, however, my doctor recommended that I start Vit C 1000mg, Vit E 800mg, Folic Acid 1mg, plus antidepressant before I begin treatment to help with side effects. I hope this helps someone else and can tell me if it helps them.

I took the highest dosage of Peg-intron in the redipen once a week and 1200 mg. of Ribaviron every day. I knew that I would feel lousy during the treatment, but I was willing to accept that for a year if I could get rid of the hep C. Both my Dr. & the drug co. warned me to expect that, it was no surprise. The first test after a month of treatment, my viral load was zero. That was encouraging. I did have injection site reactions on my thighs because that's where I first injected myself. They lasted at least 10 weeks. I tried giving myself the injections in my stomach. I still had a reaction, but not as severe as my thighs and they only lasted a week or two. I asked my Dr. if it involved injecting in a muscular area vs a fattier area and she said it was, so for the rest of my treatment, I only injected in my stomach. My first injection took me about an hour because I was nervous, but I soon gained more confidence and eventually it took about 30 - 60 sec. Initially I felt awful the day of my injection, so I switched to giving it before bed and I slept through the worst of it. I did take a benadryl which also helped me to get to sleep that night. About 2 months into my treatment, my wbc & rbc dropped a lot & I was referred to a hematologist. For 3/4 of the treatment, I was my immunity was compromised and I was close to being anemic and received treatment for that twice a week. My counts didn't improve a lot but also didn't drop any lower. The low counts made the fatigue much worse than it already was. I completed my 48 week treatment 3 weeks ago and I am pleased I did it. It was like having the flu for 48 weeks, but worth it. I now hope for no relapseRead More Read Less

Went to my doctor and he told me to stop taking both medications since my 1st 3mon test did not meet the 3% they wanted to see.(was 2.87%) Now i will just worry about how the HepC is effecting my liver. My husband has only had his third injection and I don't know how to help him, he just feels awful. He has a very high stress job, this is making him so ill he can hardly function. Can anyone of you who have taken this treatment tell me things that helped you that may help my husband. He dropped five pounds in a week, I am worried. Some things doctors just don't know. He is genotype 1A and 53 years old. And has always been healthy, full of life. thanks to all

My side efffects were so severe that I had to stop treatment two months early. I have been off both medicines (ribvarin) for a month. i am still swollen, confused and have a terrible rash. I, so far am no longer showing signs of the HepC. I wouldn't be able to go back on this treatment, however.

Treatment was a nightmare. Severe headaches, muscle and bone pain, deep depression, insomnia, confusion, to many side effects to list. Even with a positive outlook symptoms just wear you down mentally and physically. Unfortunately, viral load was back up 6 months post treatment.
